Narrated to us Yusuf bin Musa al-Qattan, who narrated to us Yahya bin Sulaym al-Ta'ifi, who narrated to us Ismail bin Umayyah, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar (RA): [He reported that] the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would enter Mecca from the upper Thaniyyah (mountain pass), and exit from the lower Thaniyyah. Commentary: This narration is recorded in *Sahih al-Bukhari* and establishes the explicit Sunnah practice of the Prophet (ﷺ) to enter the holy city of Mecca via the upper Thaniyyah (the northern mountain pass into the city) when arriving for Hajj or Umrah, and to exit via the lower Thaniyyah. This act is considered mustahabb (religiously desirable) for all pilgrims to follow in emulation of the Prophet (ﷺ), as outlined in the associated chapter. The two Thaniyyat (passes) are the traditional entry and exit routes for pilgrims arriving from the north of Mecca.
