From Ibn Jurayj, from Nafi', that Safiyya bint Abi 'Ubayd narrated to him that 'Umar, while delivering the sermon to the people, saw a slave-woman who had come out of Hafsa's house, moving through the people dressed in the garments of free women. When he finished, he visited Hafsa bint 'Umar and said: Who is the woman who came out from your house moving among the men? She said: That is a girl, the girl of 'Abd al-Rahman. He said: What makes you dress your brother's girl in the garments of free women? I visited you and took her for none but a free woman, and I intended to punish her.

ابن جریج سے، نافع سے روایت ہے کہ صفیہ بنت ابی عبید نے اسے حدیث بیان کی کہ عمر نے لوگوں کو خطبہ دیتے ہوئے ایک لونڈی کو دیکھا جو حفصہ کے گھر سے نکلی، آزاد عورتوں کا لباس پہنے لوگوں میں گھوم رہی تھی۔ جب فارغ ہوئے تو حفصہ بنت عمر کے پاس گئے اور کہا: وہ عورت کون ہے جو تمہارے پاس سے نکل کر مردوں میں گھوم رہی تھی؟ کہا: وہ لڑکی ہے، عبد الرحمن کی لونڈی ہے۔ کہا: تمہیں کیا چیز اس پر آمادہ کرتی ہے کہ اپنے بھائی کی لونڈی کو آزاد عورتوں کا لباس پہناؤ؟ میں تمہارے پاس آیا اور اسے آزاد عورت کے سوا نہ سمجھا اور اسے سزا دینے کا ارادہ کیا۔
