From al-Thawri, he said: When a traveler leading residents prays one rakah with them, then his ablution breaks and he puts forward a man who missed a rakah, though he should not have put forward except one who caught it, but he put this one forward, then he prays with them the rest of his prayer, then steps back and puts forward a man from those who caught the whole prayer, who gives salam, then he stands and makes up what he missed.

From al-Thawri, he said: When a traveler prays one rakah with residents, with a traveler and residents behind him, and he puts forward a traveler, then it occurs to the traveler to take up residence, then let him pray with them the rest of the traveler prayer, then step back and put forward a man from the travelers, who gives salam with them, then he and the residents stand and complete the rest of their prayer without an imam.
