عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عُثْمَانُ مَوْلاهُمْ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ الشَّيْخِ ، مَوْلَى أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ ، وَأُمِّ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ فِي عَشَرَةِ فِتْيَانٍ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى حُنَيْنٍ وَهُوَ أَبْغَضُ النَّاسِ إِلَيْنَا ، فَأَذَّنُوا وَقُمْنَا نُؤَذِّنُ نَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِمْ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِيتُونِي بِهَؤُلاءِ الْفِتْيَانِ ؟ " , فَقَالَ : " أَذِّنُوا " ، فَأَذَّنُوا وَكُنْتُ آخِرَهُمْ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نِعْمَ ، هَذَا الَّذِي سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَهُ , اذْهَبْ فَأَذِّنْ لأَهْلِ مَكَّةَ وَقُلْ لِعَتَّابِ بْنِ أُسَيْدٍ : أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أُأَذِّنَ لأَهْلِ مَكَّةَ " , وَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَاصِيَتِهِ ، وَقَالَ : " قُلْ : اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ , اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ , اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ , اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ , أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، مَرَّتَيْنِ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ , أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مَرَّتَيْنِ ، حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلاةِ ، حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلاةِ ، حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلاحِ ، حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلاحِ مَرَّتَيْنِ ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَإِذَا أَذَّنْتَ بِالأُولَى مِنَ الصُّبْحِ , فَقُلْ : الصَّلاةُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ النَّوْمِ مَرَّتَيْنِ ، وَإِذَا أَقَمْتَ فَقُلْهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ : قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلاةُ , قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلاةُ ، سَمِعْتَ " , قَالَ : فَكَانَ أَبُو مَحْذُورَةَ لا يَجُزُّ نَاصِيَتَهُ وَلا يُفَرِّقُهَا ، لأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَسَحَ عَلَيْهَا"

From Ibn Jurayj, who said: Uthman, their freedman, narrated to me, from his father the elder, the freedman of Abu Mahdhurah, and from Umm Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Mahdhurah, who said: He said: I went out among ten youths with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to Hunayn, while he was the most hateful of people to us. They called to prayer, and we stood calling to prayer, mocking them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Bring me these youths. He said: Call to prayer. So they called to prayer, and I was the last of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Good; this is the one whose voice I heard. Go and call for the people of Makkah, and say to Attab ibn Usayd: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered me to call for the people of Makkah. And he wiped over his forelock and said: Say: Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great; I bear witness there is no god but Allah, I bear witness there is no god but Allah, twice; I bear witness Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, twice; come to prayer, come to prayer; come to success, come to success, twice; Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great; there is no god but Allah. And when you call the first of Fajr, say: Prayer is better than sleep, twice; and when you make the iqamah, say it twice: Prayer has commenced, prayer has commenced. Did you hear? He said: So Abu Mahdhurah would neither cut his forelock nor part it, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had wiped over it.
