Ibn Jurayj reported, he said: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Mulaykah reported to us, from Uthman ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Taymi, from Rabiah ibn Abd Allah ibn al-Hudayr, that he was present when Umar ibn al-Khattab on Friday recited Surah al-Nahl upon the pulpit; when he came to the sajdah, he came down and prostrated, and the people prostrated with him. The next Friday he recited it, and when he came to the sajdah, he said: O people, we only pass by the sajdah; whoever prostrates has done right and well, and whoever does not prostrate, there is no sin upon him. He said: And Umar did not prostrate.

Al-Zuhri said: And Ibn al-Musayyib used to sit in a corner of the mosque, and the storyteller would recite the sajdah, and he would not prostrate with him, saying: I did not sit for it.

He said: I said: Then which? He said: The Furthest Mosque. He said: I said: How long between them? He said: Forty years. Then he said: Wherever prayer reaches you, pray, for it is a mosque. Al-Taymi would sometimes recite Surah al-Sajdah while passing, and prostrate as he was upon the road.
