Only a surah of the Mufassal was revealed containing mention of Paradise and Hell; when the people turned to Islam, the lawful and unlawful were revealed. Had the first thing revealed been: Do not drink wine, they would have said: We will never leave wine. Had it been revealed: Do not approach women, they would have said: We will never leave it. At Makkah was revealed, while I was a young girl playing, to Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: The Hour is more disastrous and more bitter. And Surah al-Baqarah was not revealed except while I was with him. He said: So she brought out the mushaf for him and dictated to him the verses of the surahs.

He said: In forty. He said: I can do more than that. He said: In a month. He said: I can do more than that. He said: In fifteen. Then he said: In ten. Then he said: In seven. He did not go below seven.
