Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Ammar al-Mawsili informed me, on the authority of al-Mu’affa, on the authority of Zakaria ibn Ishaq al-Makki, he said: Yahya ibn Abdullah bin Saifi, on the authority of Abu Ma’bad, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said to Muadh bin Jabal when he sent him: To Yemen: “You are coming to a people, People of the Book, so when you come to them, call them to bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad Messenger of God, if they obey that, then tell them that God has enjoined upon them five prayers in a day and a night, if that means they obeyed. So, tell them that God has imposed on them zakat to be taken from their rich and given to their poor, so if they obey you. Thus, fear the call of the oppressed.” (Peace Be Upon Him)
