Ali ibn Said al-Razi narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Aban al-Balkhi narrated to us, he said: Amr ibn Muhammad al-Anqazi narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Malik ibn al-Asbahani narrated to us, from Khallad al-Saffar, from al-Ashath ibn Taliq, from al-Hasan al-Urani, from Murra al-Hamdani, from Abdullah ibn Masud, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), may my father be ransomed for him, announced his own death to us a month before his death. When parting drew near, he gathered us to him in the house of our mother Aisha. Then he looked at us, his eyes filled with tears, and he composed himself and said: Welcome to you; may Allah greet you, may Allah have mercy on you, may Allah shelter you, may Allah aid you, may Allah raise you, may Allah benefit you, may Allah guide you, may Allah provide for you, may Allah grant you success, may Allah keep you safe, may Allah accept you. I enjoin upon you fear of Allah, and I entrust you to Allah, and I leave Him as guardian over you. I am to you from Him a clear warner. Do not exalt yourselves over Allah among His servants and in His lands, for Allah said to me and to you: That is the Home of the Hereafter; We assign it to those who desire no exaltation in the land nor corruption, and the outcome is for the God-fearing. And He said: Is there not in Hell a lodging for the arrogant. Then he said: The term has drawn near, and the return to Allah, and to Sidrat al-Muntaha, and to the Garden of Refuge, and to the Highest Companion, and the fullest cup, and fortune and pleasant life. We said: Who will wash you, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Men of my household, the nearest then the nearest. We said: How shall we shroud you? He said: In these garments of mine, if you wish, or in a Yemeni cloak, or in Egyptian white. We said: Who will pray over you among us? We wept and he wept, then he said: Gently; may Allah forgive you and reward you well on behalf of your Prophet. When you have washed me and shrouded me, place me upon my bier in this house of mine at the edge of my grave, then leave me for a while, for the first to pray over me will be my companion and close friend Jibril, then Mikail, then Israfil, then the Angel of Death with his hosts. Then enter upon me in companies, and pray over me and salute with salutation, and do not harm me with a wailing woman, nor clamor, nor lament. Let the men of my household and their women begin the prayer over me, then you. Convey my greeting much to my companions who are absent, for I have greeted whoever pledged to me upon my religion until the Day of Resurrection. We said: Who will place you in your grave? He said: My family, with many angels; they will see you whence you do not see them. No one perfected the chain of this hadith except Amr ibn Muhammad al-Anqazi. And al-Muharibi narrated it from Abd al-Malik ibn al-Asbahani, from Murra, from Abdullah. He did not mention Khallad al-Saffar, nor al-Ashath ibn Taliq, nor al-Hasan al-Urani.
