One of them said: O people, recall which of you did a good deed, that Allah in His mercy may have mercy on us. One of them said: I once did a good deed: I had workers I hired for work of mine, each man for a known wage. One day a man came to me in the middle of the day, and I hired him for the rest of the day on the terms of his companions. He worked in the rest of his day as one of them worked in his whole day, so I saw it as a duty not to deduct for him anything of what I had hired his companions for, because of his exertion in his work. One of them said to me: Do you give this one like what you gave me, though he worked only half a day? I said: O servant of Allah, I did not short you anything of your terms; it is only my wealth, I dispose of it as I wish. He became angry at that, left his wage, and I placed his right in a corner of the house as long as Allah willed. Then cattle passed by me, and I bought with it a young calf, kept it until it grew, then sold it, then spent its price on a cow; it became pregnant and multiplied until it reached what Allah willed. Then after a while a weak old man I did not recognize passed by me and said to me: I have a right with you. He mentioned it until I recognized him. I said: Yes, it is you I seek. I offered all of it to him and said: This is your right. He said: O servant of Allah, do not mock me; if you will not give me charity, give me my right. I said: By Allah, I am not jesting with you; it is indeed your right, I have nothing of it. So I handed it to him. O Allah, if I did that for Your sake, relieve us. Then the opening widened until they saw and could see. The second said: I once did a good deed: I had surplus, and hardship befell people. A woman came to me seeking a favor from me. I said to her: No, by Allah, it is not without your giving yourself. She refused me, then returned and reminded me of Allah, but I refused her. I said: No, by Allah, it is not without your giving yourself. She refused me, then mentioned that to her husband, and he said to her: Give him yourself and enrich your dependents. She came to me and adjured me by Allah. I said to her: No, by Allah, it is not without your giving yourself. When she saw that, she submitted herself to me. When I uncovered her and was about to take her, she trembled beneath me. I said: What is wrong with you? She said: I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds. I said to her: You feared Allah in hardship, while I did not fear Him in ease. So I left her and gave her what was due from me for having uncovered her. O Allah, if I did that for Your sake, relieve us. Then the mountain split until they recognized and it became clear to them. The third said: I once did a good deed: I had two aged parents, and I had sheep; I would feed my parents and give them drink, then return to my sheep. One day rain befell me and detained me, and I did not return until evening. I came to my family, took my milking vessel and milked, leaving my sheep standing, and went to my parents to give them drink, but found them asleep. It distressed me to wake them, and distressed me to leave my sheep, so I remained sitting with my milking vessel in my hand until morning woke them. O Allah, if You know I did that for Your sake, relieve us. Al-Numan said: It is as though I hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Then the mountain said: Crack, and Allah relieved them, and they went out.

Then Allah the Almighty revealed concerning that: O Prophet, why do you forbid what Allah has made lawful for you - meaning Mariyah - seeking the pleasure of your wives - meaning Hafsah - and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful - meaning for what was from you - Allah has ordained for you the dissolution of your oaths, and Allah is your Protector, and He is the Knowing, the Wise. And when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement - meaning Hafsah - then when she informed of it - meaning Aishah - and Allah showed it to him - meaning through the Quran - he made known part of it - he informed Hafsah of what she had disclosed of the matter of Mariyah - and turned aside from part - from what she had informed of the matter of Abu Bakr and Umar, and did not reproach her for it - then when he informed her of it she said: Who informed you of this? He said: The Knowing, the Aware informed me. Then he turned to her reproaching her, saying: If you two turn to Allah, then your hearts have inclined; but if you support one another against him, then Allah is his Protector, and Jibril, and the righteous of the believers - meaning Abu Bakr and Umar - and the angels after that are supporters. Perhaps his Lord, if he divorces you, will give him wives better than you, submitting, believing, obedient, repentant, worshipping, traveling, previously married and virgins. So He promised him among the previously married: Asiyah bint Muzahim, the wife of Pharaoh, and the sister of Nuh, and among the virgins: Maryam bint Imran, and the sister of Musa, peace be upon them. This hadith is not narrated from Abu Hurayrah except with this chain; Hisham ibn Ibrahim alone narrated it.

2317 - Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahim ibn Sharus narrated to us, he said: Yahya ibn Abi al-Hajjaj al-Basri narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Abi Humayd, from Awn ibn Abd Allah ibn Utbah ibn Masud, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Wonder at the believer and his distress at sickness; if he knew what is for him in sickness he would love to be sick forever. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised his head to the sky and laughed. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, why did you raise your head to the sky and laugh? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I wondered at two angels who were seeking a servant in a place of prayer he used to be in, but did not find him. They returned and said: O our Lord, Your servant so-and-so, we used to record for him in his day and night the deeds he used to do, but we found him held in Your bonds. Allah, blessed and exalted, said: Record for My servant the deeds he used to do in his day and night, and do not diminish anything of them; upon Me is the reward of what I have confined him with, and for him is the reward of what he used to do. This hadith is not narrated from Utbah ibn Masud except with this chain; Muhammad ibn Abi Humayd alone narrated it.

He said: So I thought he would set aside for me a portion of wealth, but he said: Four rakahs which you pray every day; if you cannot then every Friday; if you cannot then every month; if you cannot then every year; if you cannot then once in your lifetime: you say takbir, then recite the Mother of the Quran and a surah, then say: Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is Greatest, fifteen times, then you bow and say it ten times, then you rise and say it ten times, then you prostrate and say it ten times, then you rise and say it ten times, then you prostrate and say it ten times, then you rise and say it ten times, then you do likewise in all of your prayer. When you finish, say after the tashahhud and before the taslim: O Allah, I ask You for the success of the people of guidance, the deeds of the people of certainty, the sincere counsel of the people of repentance, the resolve of the patient, the earnestness of the dutiful, the aspiration of the desirous, the worship of the pious, and the knowledge of the learned, until I fear You. O Allah, I ask You for a fear that restrains me from disobeying You, until I work in obedience to You a deed by which I deserve Your pleasure, until I am sincere to You in repentance out of fear of You, until I am sincere to You in counsel out of love for You, until I trust in You in all matters with good expectation of You. Glory be to the Creator of the Fire. If you do that, O Ibn Abbas, Allah will forgive your sins, minor and major, old and new, secret and open, intentional and mistaken. No one narrated this hadith from Mujahid except Abd al-Quddus, nor from Abd al-Quddus except Musa ibn Jafar; Abu al-Walid al-Makhzumi is alone in transmitting it.

2320 - Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahim ibn Sharus narrated to us, he said: Yahya ibn Abi al-Hajjaj al-Basri narrated to us, he said: Abu Sinan Isa ibn Sinan narrated to us, he said: Yala ibn Shaddad ibn Aws narrated to us, from Ubadah ibn al-Samit who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led us in prayer, then two men stepped forward to him: a man from the Ansar and a man from Thaqif, and the Ansari outpaced the Thaqafi. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to the Thaqafi: The Ansari has preceded you in asking. The Ansari said: Perhaps, O Messenger of Allah, he was more hasty than me, so he is absolved. He said: The Thaqafi asked him about prayer and he informed him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to the Ansari: If you wish I will tell you what you came to ask about, and if you wish you may ask me and I will inform you of that. He said: O Messenger of Allah, you tell me. He said: You came to ask me what reward is yours when you head for the Ancient House, what reward is yours in your standing at Arafah, what reward is yours in your stoning of the Jamarat, what reward is yours in shaving your head, and what reward is yours when you bid farewell to the House. The Ansari said: By the One who sent you with the truth, I came to ask you about nothing else. He said: Your reward when you head for the Ancient House is that neither you nor your mount lifts a foot nor sets it down except that a good deed is written for you and a rank is raised for you. As for your standing at Arafah, Allah Almighty says to His angels: O My angels, what has brought My servants? They say: They have come seeking Your pleasure and Paradise. So Allah Almighty says: I call Myself and My creation to witness that I have forgiven them, as many as the days of eternity, as many as the raindrops, and as many as the sands of Alij. As for your stoning of the Jamarat, Allah Almighty says: No soul knows what is hidden for them of comfort of eyes as reward for what they used to do. As for your shaving your head, there is not a hair of yours that falls to the ground except that it will be a light for you on the Day of Resurrection. As for the House, when you bid it farewell, you emerge from your sins as on the day your mother bore you. This hadith is not narrated from Ubadah except with this chain; Yahya ibn Abi al-Hajjaj is alone in transmitting it.

2320 - ہمیں ابراہیم نے حدیث سنائی، کہا: ہمیں محمد بن عبد الرحیم بن شروس نے سنایا، کہا: ہمیں یحییٰ بن ابی الحجاج البصری نے سنایا، کہا: ہمیں ابو سنان عیسیٰ بن سنان نے سنایا، کہا: ہمیں یعلیٰ بن شداد بن اوس نے سنایا، عبادہ بن صامت سے، کہا: ہمیں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے نماز پڑھائی، پھر دو آدمی آپ کی طرف بڑھے: ایک انصار میں سے اور ایک ثقیف میں سے، تو انصاری ثقفی سے آگے بڑھ گیا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ثقفی سے فرمایا: انصاری تم سے سوال میں سبقت لے گیا ہے۔ انصاری نے کہا: شاید اے اللہ کے رسول! وہ مجھ سے زیادہ جلدی والا ہو، پس وہ معاف ہے۔ کہا: تو ثقفی نے آپ سے نماز کے بارے میں پوچھا تو آپ نے اسے بتایا، پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انصاری سے فرمایا: اگر چاہو تو میں تمہیں بتا دوں کہ تم کس بارے میں پوچھنے آئے ہو، اور اگر چاہو تو تم مجھ سے پوچھو اور میں اس بارے میں بتاؤں۔ کہا: اے اللہ کے رسول! آپ ہی مجھے بتائیں۔ فرمایا: تم مجھ سے پوچھنے آئے ہو کہ جب تم بیت عتیق کا قصد کرو تو تمہارے لیے کیا اجر ہے، عرفہ میں تمہارے وقوف میں تمہارے لیے کیا اجر ہے، جمار کو کنکریاں مارنے میں تمہارے لیے کیا اجر ہے، اپنا سر منڈانے میں تمہارے لیے کیا اجر ہے، اور جب تم بیت کو الوداع کہو تو تمہارے لیے کیا اجر ہے۔ انصاری نے کہا: اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ کو حق کے ساتھ بھیجا! میں آپ سے اس کے سوا کچھ پوچھنے نہیں آیا۔ فرمایا: جب تم بیت عتیق کا قصد کرو تو تمہارے لیے اجر یہ ہے کہ تم یا تمہاری سواری کوئی قدم اٹھائے یا رکھے مگر تمہارے لیے ایک نیکی لکھی جاتی ہے اور تمہارے لیے ایک درجہ بلند کیا جاتا ہے۔ اور عرفہ میں تمہارا وقوف: اللہ عزوجل اپنے فرشتوں سے فرماتا ہے: اے میرے فرشتو! میرے بندوں کو کیا چیز لائی ہے؟ وہ کہتے ہیں: وہ تیری رضا اور جنت طلب کرنے آئے ہیں۔ تو اللہ عزوجل فرماتا ہے: میں اپنے آپ کو اور اپنی مخلوق کو گواہ بناتا ہوں کہ میں نے انہیں بخش دیا ہے، زمانے کے دنوں کی تعداد، قطرہ قطرہ بارش کی تعداد اور عالج کی ریت کی تعداد کے برابر۔ اور جمار کو کنکریاں مارنا: اللہ عزوجل فرماتا ہے: کوئی جان نہیں جانتی کہ ان کے لیے آنکھوں کی ٹھنڈک میں سے کیا چھپا رکھا گیا ہے، اس کے بدلے جو وہ کرتے تھے۔ اور اپنا سر منڈانا: تمہارے بالوں میں سے کوئی بال زمین پر نہیں گرتا مگر قیامت کے دن وہ تمہارے لیے نور ہوگا۔ اور بیت جب تم اسے الوداع کہو: تو تم اپنے گناہوں سے نکلتے ہو جیسے اس دن تھے جب تمہاری ماں نے تمہیں جنا تھا۔ یہ حدیث عبادہ سے اس سند کے سوا روایت نہیں ہوتی؛ یحییٰ بن ابی الحجاج ہی اس میں منفرد ہے۔

2321 - Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: Abu Salim ibn Ju'shum al-San'ani narrated to us, he said: Attab ibn Bashir al-Harrani narrated to us, from Khusayf, from Nafi who said: I said to Ibn Umar: When you head toward Makkah you pray upon your mount, so why do you do that? He said: Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) doing it, I would not have done it. No one narrated this hadith from Khusayf except Attab ibn Bashir; Ibn Ju'shum is alone in transmitting it.

They would trot briskly for three circuits and walk four. No one narrated this hadith from Khusayf except Attab.

Muawiyah said: Nothing of the House is to be abandoned. So Ibn Abbas said: You have indeed in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example. Muawiyah said: You have spoken the truth. No one narrated this hadith from Khusayf except Attab.

No one narrated this hadith from Khusayf except Attab.
