2247 - Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Mahdi al-Harawi narrated to us, he said: Ali ibn Khashram narrated to us, he said: al-Fadl ibn Musa narrated to us, from Abd Allah ibn Kaysan who said: Ikrimah narrated to us, from Ibn Abbas who said: Abu Bakr went out at midday, and Umar heard of it, so he went out and there was Abu Bakr. He said: O Abu Bakr, what brought you out at this hour? He said: By Allah, I find in my stomach the grip of hunger. He said: And I, by Allah, nothing brought me out but it. While they were thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came out to them and said: What brought you two out at this hour? They said: By Allah, what we find in our stomachs of the grip of hunger brought us out. He said: And I, by Him in Whose Hand is my soul, nothing brought me out but it, so stand. They stood and went until they came to the door of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari. Abu Ayyub used to store for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) food or milk, but that day he was late and did not come at its time, so his family fed it to him, and he went to his palm trees working in them. When they came to the door of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, a woman came out and said: Welcome to the Messenger of Allah and those with him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to her: Where is Abu Ayyub? She said: He will come to you, O Prophet of Allah, presently. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned back, and Abu Ayyub saw him while working in his palms, so he came hurrying until he caught up with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: Welcome to the Prophet of Allah and those with him. He said: O Messenger of Allah, this is not the time you used to come to me. He turned him back, then went to a cluster of the palm and cut it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: What did you intend by this? He said: O Messenger of Allah, I wished that you eat of its fresh ripe dates, its unripe dates, and its dried dates, and I shall also slaughter for you with it. He said: If you slaughter, do not slaughter one with milk. So he took a young goat of his and slaughtered it, and said to his wife: Bake, and I shall cook, for you know baking best. He took half the kid and cooked it, and roasted half of it. When the food was ready it was placed before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his companions. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took some of the kid and placed it upon a loaf and said: O Abu Ayyub, convey this to Fatimah, for she has not had the like of this for days. When they ate and were satisfied, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Bread and meat and unripe dates and dried dates and fresh dates, and his eyes filled with tears, then he said: This is the bliss you will be asked about on the Day of Resurrection. That weighed heavily upon his companions, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When you obtain the like of this and strike with your hands, say: In the name of Allah and by the blessing of Allah; and when you are satisfied, say: Praise be to Allah who has fed us to fullness, quenched us, blessed us and favored us; for this suffices for that. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would never have a kindness done to him by anyone except that he loved to repay him, so he said to Abu Ayyub: Come to us tomorrow. He did not hear, so Umar said to him: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) orders you to come to him. When he came to him, he gave him a slave girl and said: O Abu Ayyub, treat her well, for we have seen nothing but good as long as she was with us. When Abu Ayyub brought her, he said: I find nothing better for the instruction of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than to free her, so he freed her. No one narrated this hadith from Abd Allah ibn Kaysan except al-Fadl ibn Musa.
