6614 - Muhammad ibn Jafar son of the Imam narrated to us, Abu Hafs Amr ibn Ali narrated to us, Abdullah ibn Hisham al-Dastuwai narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from Qatadah, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, from Abu Ubaydah ibn Hudhayfah, he said: I used to ask people about Adi ibn Hatim while he was beside me in Kufah, so I came to him, and said: What hadith has reached me from you? So he said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sent, I was among the people most hateful of him, until I went fleeing, until I joined the land of Sham, then while I was thus, it reached us that Khalid ibn al-Walid had been directed toward us, so I went fleeing until I joined the land of Rome, then while I was thus sitting in the shade of a wall, I saw a covered woman coming, so I stood to her, and she was my paternal aunt, so she said: O Adi ibn Hatim, you fled and left me, no sooner had you left us than Khalid ibn al-Walid came upon us in the morning, took the offspring captive, and killed the fighters. So we went until we came to Madinah. Then while I was one day sitting, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by me, intending prayer, so I said: O Muhammad, the father has perished, and the delegate has fled, free me, may Allah free you. He said: And who is your delegate? I said: Adi ibn Hatim. He said: The one fleeing from Allah and His Messenger? And he went on. Then on the second day he passed by me intending prayer, so I said: O Muhammad, the father has perished, and the delegate has fled, free me, may Allah free you. He said: And who is your delegate? I said: Adi ibn Hatim. He said: The one fleeing from Allah and His Messenger. And he went on and did not return anything to me. Then on the third day he passed, and I was shy to say anything to him, so Ali ibn Abi Talib nudged me, so I said: O Muhammad, the father has perished and the delegate has fled, free me, may Allah free you. He said: And who is your delegate? I said: Adi ibn Hatim. He said: The one fleeing from Allah and His Messenger. I said: Yes. He said: Allah has freed you, so stay and do not leave until something comes to us and we equip you. So I stayed three days, then a caravan came from Sarh carrying food, so he mounted me upon this camel and provisioned me. O Adi ibn Hatim, come to him, come to him and take your share from him before one comes to him who is not like you from your people. So I came until I reached Madinah, and the people looked at me, and said: Adi ibn Hatim has come. So I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he said: O Adi ibn Hatim, are you the one fleeing from Allah and His Messenger? I said: I have a religion. He said: I know your religion better than you: Are you not a Rakusi, are you not a chief of your people, do you not take the quarter? So I felt shame at that. He said: It does not prevent you from accepting Islam except that you see around us poverty, and you see people united against us. O Adi, soon you will see the covered woman depart from al-Hirah until she comes to the House without protection, and soon the treasures of Kisra will be opened upon us. He said: I said: Kisra ibn Hurmuz? He said: Kisra ibn Hurmuz, and soon a man will take out charity from his wealth and find none to accept it from him. He said: So I was among the first cavalry that raided the treasures of Kisra, and I saw the covered woman depart from al-Hirah until she came to Makkah without protection, and by Allah the third will surely be, for the word of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is true. No one narrated this hadith from Qatadah except Hisham al-Dastuwai; his son Abdullah alone transmitted it.
