Chapter 333 - Explanation of the difficulty in what was narrated from Aisha and Hafsa, wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and from Umm Kulthum, from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) concerning this verse: Guard the prayers and the middle prayer, and the Asr prayer. 2067 - Yunus narrated to us, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us that Malik narrated to him, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from al-Qaqa ibn Hakim, from Abu Yunus, client of Aisha wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he said: Aisha mother of the believers ordered me to write for her a codex and said: When you reach this verse inform me: Guard the prayers and the middle prayer. He said: So when I reached it I informed her, and she dictated to me: Guard the prayers and the middle prayer and the Asr prayer and stand for Allah devoutly, then she said: I heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

2068 - Ali ibn Maabad narrated to us, he said: Yaqub ibn Ibrahim ibn Sad narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, he said: Abu Jafar Muhammad ibn Ali and Nafi client of Abdullah ibn Umar narrated to me that Amr ibn Rafi client of Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated to them that he used to write codices in the time of the Prophet's wives and said: Hafsa daughter of Umar wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had me write a codex, and she said to me: When you reach this verse of Surat al-Baqara do not write it till you come to me, and I shall dictate it to you as I memorized it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So when I reached it I came to her with the sheet I write, and she said: Write: Guard the prayers and the middle prayer and the Asr prayer.

2068 - ہم سے علی بن معبد نے بیان کیا، کہا: ہم سے یعقوب بن ابراہیم بن سعد نے بیان کیا، کہا: ہم سے میرے والد نے بیان کیا، ابن اسحاق سے، کہا: مجھ سے ابو جعفر محمد بن علی اور نافع مولیٰ عبد اللہ بن عمر نے بیان کیا کہ عمرو بن رافع مولیٰ عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ نے انہیں بتایا کہ وہ نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی ازواج کے عہد میں مصاحف لکھتے تھے اور کہا: مجھ سے حفصہ بنت عمر زوج نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مصحف لکھوایا، اور مجھ سے کہا: جب سورۃ بقرہ کی اس آیت پر پہنچو تو اسے نہ لکھو حتیٰ کہ میرے پاس آؤ، تو میں تمہیں املا کراؤں گی جیسا میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے یاد کیا۔ تو جب میں اس پر پہنچا تو میں ان کے پاس وہ ورقہ لے کر آیا جسے میں لکھتا تھا تو انہوں نے کہا: لکھو: حافظوا علی الصلوات والصلاۃ الوسطی وصلاۃ العصر۔

2070 - Ali ibn Maabad narrated to us, he said: al-Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us, he said: Ibn Jurayj said: Abd al-Malik ibn Abd al-Rahman informed me, from his mother Umm Humayd ibn Abd al-Rahman, Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, was asked about Allah's saying: And the middle prayer. So she said: We used to recite it upon the first wording in the Messenger of Allah's time: Guard the prayers and the middle prayer and the Asr prayer and stand for Allah devoutly. Abu Jafar said: So in what we narrated from Aisha, Hafsa and Umm Kulthum, may Allah be pleased with them, is affirmation of the Asr prayer in recitation, so we looked therein whether there was narrated what indicates its abrogation therefrom and removal from the Quran and return to the Sunna, as we mentioned in others.

2071 - So we found Abu Shurayh Muhammad ibn Zakariyya ibn Yahya and Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Said ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us, they said: al-Firyabi narrated to us, he said: Fudayl ibn Marzuq narrated to us, he said: Shaqiq ibn Uqba narrated to us, from al-Bara ibn Azib, he said: There was sent down: Guard the prayers and the Asr prayer; we recited it in the Messenger of Allah's time, then Allah abrogated it and sent down: Guard the prayers and the middle prayer. Abu Jafar said: So we stood thereby upon that and the Asr prayer mentioned in Aisha's, Hafsa's and Umm Kulthum's hadiths is of what had been Quran then abrogated and returned to what is in our codices, and likewise all narrated of what is mentioned as of the Quran while we do not find it in our codices is of what had been Quran then abrogated, removed from the Quran and returned to the Sunna so it became thereof, and we ask Allah Almighty for guidance.

2071 - تو ہم نے پایا ابو شریح محمد بن زکریا بن یحییٰ اور عبد اللہ بن محمد بن سعید بن ابی مریم نے ہم سے بیان کیا، کہا: ہم سے فریابی نے بیان کیا، کہا: ہم سے فضیل بن مرزوق نے بیان کیا، کہا: ہم سے شقیق بن عقبہ نے بیان کیا، براء بن عازب سے، کہا: نازل ہوئی: حافظوا علی الصلوات وصلاۃ العصر، ہم اسے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے عہد میں پڑھتے تھے پھر اللہ نے اسے منسوخ کیا اور نازل کیا: حافظوا علی الصلوات والصلاۃ الوسطی۔ ابو جعفر نے کہا: تو ہم اس سے واقف ہوئے کہ وصلاۃ العصر کا مذکور عائشہ و حفصہ و ام کلثوم کی احادیث میں اس میں سے ہے جو قرآن تھا پھر منسوخ ہوا اور ہمارے مصاحف میں جو ہے اس کی طرف لوٹا، اور اسی طرح ہر وہ جو روایت کیا گیا جس میں ذکر ہو کہ وہ قرآن میں سے ہے اور ہم اسے اپنے مصاحف میں نہیں پاتے تو وہ اس میں سے ہے جو قرآن تھا، اور منسوخ ہوا، تو قرآن سے نکال دیا گیا اور سنت کی طرف لوٹا دیا گیا تو وہ اس میں سے ہو گیا، اور ہم اللہ عزوجل سے توفیق مانگتے ہیں۔
