881 - Muhammad ibn Khuzaymah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Abdillah al-Ansari narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Amr al-Laythi narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, he said: We were with Muawiyah, and the caller called, so Muawiyah said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: When you hear the caller calling, say the like of his saying, or as he said. Abu Jafar said: So a group went to these reports and said: Whoever hears the adhan should say as the caller says, until he finishes his adhan. Others disagreed with them on that and said: His saying: Come to prayer, come to success, has no meaning as repetition, for the caller only says that to call people thereby to prayer and to success. And the hearer does not say what he says thereof by way of calling people to that; he only says it by way of remembrance, and this is not of remembrance. So he should place in its stead what has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the other reports, which is: There is no power nor strength except with Allah. And among the proof for them on that was that it is possible that his saying: So say the like of what he says, until he falls silent, means: So say the like of what he began the adhan with, of takbir and the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, until he falls silent. So the takbir and the testimony are what is intended by his saying: The like of what he says. And he intended that in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah.

895 - Abd al-Rahman ibn Amr al-Dimashqi narrated to us, he said: Ali ibn Ayyash narrated to us, he said: Shuayb ibn Abi Hamzah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir ibn Abdillah, he said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard the caller, he would say: O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, give our master Muhammad al-Wasilah, and raise him to the praised station which You promised him.

896 - Fahd narrated to us, he said: Abu Nuaym al-Tahhan narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq, from Hafsah bint Abi Kathir, from her father, she said: Umm Salamah taught me, and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught me, he said: O Umm Salamah, when it is at the Maghrib adhan, say: O Allah, this is at the coming of Your night and the departing of Your day, and the voices of Your callers, and the presence of Your prayer - forgive me. 897 - Ibn Abi Dawud narrated to us, he said: Ubaydullah ibn Muadh ibn Muadh narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, he said: Said ibn Abi Arubah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Abu al-Ahwas, from Alqamah, from Abdillah, he said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on one of his journeys, and he heard a caller saying: Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Upon the fitrah. Then he said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: He has come out of the Fire. He said: So we rushed to him, and behold he was a herdsman whom prayer had overtaken, so he called with it.
