نا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُطِيلُ فِي أَوَّلِ رَكْعَةٍ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ وَالظُّهْرِ، فَكُنَّا نَرَى أَنَّهُ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ لِيَتَأَدَّى النَّاسُ"""

Abu Kurayb Muhammad bin Al-Ala told us, Abu Khalid told us, Sufyan told us, on the authority of Muammar, on the authority of Yahya bin Abi Kathir, on the authority of Abd Allah bin Abi Qatada, on the authority of his father, said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to prolong the first rak’ah of dawn and noon, so we used to We see that he does this so that people can follow him.”
