Chapter: The prayer of seeking guidance (Istikharah)

Yunus bin Abdul-Ala told us, Ibn Wahb told us, Haywa told us, that Al-Walid bin Abi Al-Walid told him, that Ayoub bin Khaled bin Abi Ayyub Al-Ansari told him, on the authority of his father, on the authority of his grandfather, that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Keep the engagement. Then perform ablution, and perform your ablution well, then pray what God has ordained for you, then praise your Lord and glorify Him, then say: O God, You are able, but I am not able. And You know and I do not know, and You are the Knower of the unseen, so if you deem something good for me in so-and-so, and you call it by her name, in my religion, in this world, and in my hereafter, then ordain it for me. And if something else is better for me than it in my religion, this world, and the hereafter, then settle it for me, or he said: Determine it for me.”

سیدنا ابوایوب رضی اللہ عنہ کا بیان ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”منگنی کا پیغام چھپا کر رکھ، پھر وضو کر اچھی طرح پھر نماز پڑھ جتنی اللہ نے تمہارے لئے لکھ دی پھر اپنے رب کی حمد اور بزرگی بیان کر پھر یہ دعا مانگو، «اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلاَ أَقْدِرُ وَتَعْلَمُ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتَ عَلاَّمُ الْغُيُوبِ فَإِنْ رَأَيْتَ لِي فِي فُلَانَةٍ (تُسَمَّيْهَا بِاِسْمِهَا) خَيْراً لِيْ فِيْ دِيْنِي وَدُنْيَايَ وَاٰخِرَتِى فَاقْدُرْهَا لِي، وَإِنْ كَانَ غَيْرُهَا خَيْراً لِيْ مِنْهَا فِيْ دِيْنِي وَدُنْيَايَ وَاٰخِرَتِى فَاقْضِ لِيْ بِهَا» : اے اللہ بیشک تو قادر ہے اور میں قادر نہیں ہوں، تو جانتا ہے میں نہیں جانتا، تو غیبوں کو خوب جاننے والا ہے پس اگر تو فلاں عورت کو (اس کا نام لو) میرے لئے دین و دنیا اور میری آخرت کے حق میں بہتر سمجھتا ہے تو اُسے میرے مقدر میں کر دے اور اگر اس کے علاوہ کوئی دوسری عورت میرے لئے میرے دین و دینا اور میری آخرت کے حق میں بہتر ہے تو اس کا میرے حق میں فیصلہ فرما دے، یا فرمایا: ”اُسے میرے مقدر میں کر دے۔“
