جناب مطلب بن عبداللہ مخزومی بیان کرتے ہیں کہ سیدنا ابن عمررضی اللہ عنہما ایک رکعت وتر پڑھتے تھے۔ تو ایک شخص اُن کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور اُس نے آپ سے وتر کے بارے میں سوال کیا۔ تو اُنہوں نے اُسے حُکم دیا کہ وتر علیحدہ پڑھا کرو۔ (ایک رکعت الگ پڑھو) اس شخص نے کہا، مجھے ڈر ہے کہ لوگ کہیں گے یہ دُم کٹی (ناقص) نماز ہے۔ تو سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا تو کیا تم اللہ اور اُسکے رسول کی سنّت (جاننا) چاہتے ہو؟ یہ اللہ اور اُسکے رسول کی سنّت ہے۔

He performed two rak'ahs, then he performed the Witr prayer with one, then he prayed the two rak'ahs of Fajr, then he led us in the Fajr prayer.
