On the authority of Abu Najih Amr bin Absa - with the opening of the eye and the letter - Al-Salami, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: When I was in pre-Islamic times, I used to think that people were misguided, that they were not upon anything, and that they were worshiping idols, so I heard of a man in Mecca telling news, so I sat on my mount, and came to him, and behold, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was hiding, and his people dared him, so he was kind until I entered upon him in Mecca. So I said to him: What are you? He said: “I am a prophet.” I said: “And what is a prophet?” He said: “Allah sent me.” I said: “With what will I appoint you?” He said: “He sent me to connect family ties, break idols, and to affirm the oneness of Allah, not associating anything with Him.” I said: “Who is with you on this?” He said: “A free man and a slave.” And with him on that day was Abu Bakr and Bilal, may Allah be pleased with them. I said: I am following you. He said: “You will not be able to do that this day of yours. Do you not see my condition and the condition of the people? But go back to your family, and if you hear of me appearing, come to me.” He said: So I went to my family and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to Medina, and I was with my family, so I began to learn the news and ask the people when he came to Medina until he arrived. so I said: What did this man who came to Medina do? They said: People were rushing towards him, and his people wanted to kill him, but they were unable to do so, so I came to Medina and entered upon him, so I said: O Messenger of Allah, do you recognize me? He said: “Yes, you are the one who met me in Mecca.” He said: So I said, O Messenger of Allah, tell me about what Allah has taught you that I do not know. Tell me about prayer? He said: “Pray the morning prayer, then stop praying until the sun rises the length of a spear, for it rises when it rises between the horns of Satan, and at that time the infidels prostrate to it. Then pray, for the prayer is witnessed and attended until the shadow is equal to the length of a spear, then stop praying, for then Hell will burn; then when the shade (after noon) comes, pray; Prayer is witnessed and attended until you pray the afternoon prayer, then refrain from prayer until the sun sets, for it sets between the horns of Satan, and at that time the disbelievers prostrate to it.” He said: So I said: O Prophet of Allah, tell me about ablution? He said: “There is not a man among you who approaches his ablution, then rinses his mouth and inhales it, but the sins fall out on his face, in his mouth, and in his nostrils, and then when he washes His face is as Allah commanded him, unless the sins of his face fall down from the ends of his beard with the water, then he washes his hands to the elbows, unless the sins of his hands fall down from his fingertips with water and then he wipes his head, unless the sins of his hands fall down from his fingertips with water, then he washes his hands up to the elbows, unless the sins of his hands fall down from his fingertips with the water then he wipes his head, unless the sins of his head fall down from the ends of his hair with water, then he washes his forefoot to the ankles unless sins fall out. His feet from his fingertips to the water, and if he stood up and prayed, then he praised Allah Almighty, and praised and glorified him for the one to whom he is worthy, and his heart was emptied for Allah Almighty, unless he departed from his sin as he looked on the day his mother gave birth to him.” So Amr ibn Absa narrated this hadith to Abu Umamah, a companion of the Messenger of Allah, and Abu Umamah said to him: O Amr ibn Absa, see what you say! In one position will this man be given? So he said. Amr: O Abu Umamah, my age has grown, my bones have thinned, and my end is approaching, and I have no need to lie to Allah Almighty, nor to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). If I had not heard it from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) except once, twice, or three times, until he counted seven times, I would never have spoken to him, but I heard him more than that [Muslim].
