Abu Dawud narrated to us, saying: Wuhayb ibn Khalid narrated to us, saying: Jafar ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib narrated to us, from his father, from Jabir ibn Abd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed in Madina nine years without performing Hajj, then he announced Hajj to the people, and many people intended to go out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So he set out until he reached Dhu al-Hulayfa, where Asma bint Umays gave birth to Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Siddiq, so she sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asking him, and he said: Bathe, bind yourself with a cloth, then enter ihram. So she did. He said: When the breast of the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) settled upon the open desert, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised his voice in talbiya and we did also, intending nothing but Hajj. Jabir said: I looked as far as my sight reached before me, behind me, to my right and to my left, of people on foot and mounted. So we set out knowing nothing but Hajj, for which we had set out, with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) among us, while the Quran descended upon him and he knew its interpretation, and he acted only by what he was commanded. Until we reached Makkah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) began with the Stone and touched it, then circumambulated seven times, trotting in three of them and walking in four. Then he recited this verse: {And take the Station of Ibrahim as a prayer place}. He said: He prayed two rakas; my father said: He used to like to recite in them the chapters of Tawhid: {Say, O disbelievers} and {Say, He is Allah, One}, though he did not mention that in the narration of Jabir. Then he returned to the narration of Jabir: He said: Then he came to the Corner and touched it. He said: Then he went out to al-Safa. He said: We begin with what Allah began with, and said: {Indeed al-Safa and al-Marwa are among the rites of Allah}. He said: He ascended al-Safa until the House appeared to him, and magnified Allah thrice and said: There is no god but Allah, alone without partner; to Him belongs dominion and to Him belongs praise; He gives life and causes death; in His hand is good, and He is over all things capable. Then he supplicated between that. He said: Then he descended and walked until he came to the belly of the valley, hastened until his feet rose in the valley, then walked until he came to al-Marwa, ascended until the House appeared to him, magnified thrice, and said: There is no god but Allah, alone without partner, just as he did, meaning upon al-Safa. Then he descended and said: Whoever does not have the sacrificial animal with him, let him exit ihram and make it an Umra; had I faced of my affair what I now look back upon, I would have made it an Umra. So they exited ihram, and Ali ibn Abi Talib arrived from Yemen and saw the people had exited ihram, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: With what did you enter ihram? He said: I said: O Allah, I enter ihram with what Your Messenger enters ihram. He said: I have the sacrificial animal with me, so do not exit ihram. He said: So Ali entered upon Fatima, and she had applied kohl and worn dyed garments, so he disapproved of that and said: Who commanded you with this? She said: My father commanded me. Muhammad ibn Ali said: Ali used to narrate in Iraq: I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) complaining against Fatima about what she mentioned, and he said: She spoke the truth; I commanded her. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said it thrice. When it was the day of sacrifice, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sacrificed sixty-three camels, and Ali sacrificed what remained, and they were a hundred camels. He took a piece from each camel, cooked, and he and Ali ate and drank of the broth. And Suraqa ibn Malik ibn Jushum said: O Messenger of Allah, is this for this year of ours or forever? He said: No, rather forever; Umra has entered into Hajj. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) interlaced his fingers.
