Muhammad ibn Uthman ibn Abi Safwan al-Thaqafi narrated to us, he said: Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, he said: Mujalid narrated to us, from Amir, from Masruq, from Abdullah, in marfu' form, he said: The judge will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and made to stand at the edge of Hell; if he is ordered to be taken and pushed, he will fall into it for seventy autumns. We do not know of anyone narrating it in musnad form from Mujalid except Yahya ibn Sa'id.

They said: O Messenger of Allah, shall we be better then? He said: Rather, you today are better than you will be then. We do not know of anyone narrating it from Mujalid except Muhammad ibn Fudayl, nor from Ibn Fudayl except this Muhammad ibn Ja'far, and he was not corroborated in it.

We do not know of anyone narrating this hadith except Muhammad ibn Salim, and he was not corroborated in it; and this Muhammad ibn Salim is lenient in hadith.

So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Your mother and your father, your sister and your brother, and the nearest, the nearest.

Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Ahwazi narrated to us, he said: Amir ibn Mudrik narrated to us, he said: al-Sari ibn Isma'il narrated to us, from al-Sha'bi, from Masruq, from Abdullah who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was on a high place of the ground until I sat facing his face — or my face at his knees — and I seized the solitude of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, which sins are greatest? He turned away from me until I said it three times, then he turned his face to me and said: That you set up a rival to Allah while He created you. Then I said: Then what? He said: That you kill your child lest he eat — or share food — with you. I said: O Messenger of Allah, then what? Or then what? He said: That you commit adultery with your neighbour's wife. Then he stretched out his hand and recited: {And those who do not call upon another god with Allah} to the end of the verse. We do not know of anyone narrating this hadith from al-Sha'bi with this isnad except al-Sari ibn Isma'il; al-Sari is not strong, though al-Zuhri and a large group of scholars narrated from him.
