And from the hadith of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, what Amr ibn al-As narrated from Ja'far: 1325 - Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, saying: Mu'adh ibn Mu'adh narrated to us, saying: Ibn Awn narrated to us, saying: Umayr ibn Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Ja'far ibn Abi Talib said: O Messenger of Allah, permit me to go to a land where I worship Allah fearing no one until I die. He said: So he permitted him, and he went to the Negus. And Mu'adh said: Ibn Awn narrated to me, saying: Umayr ibn Ishaq narrated to me, saying: Amr ibn al-As narrated to me, saying: When I saw Ja'far and his companions secure in the land of Abyssinia, I said: I shall surely attack this man and his companions; so I came to the Negus and said: Permit Amr ibn al-As; so he permitted me and I entered, and I said: In our land there is a cousin of this man who claims people have but one God; and by Allah, if you do not relieve us of him and his companions, neither I nor any of my companions shall ever bring you this semen-trade again. He said: Where is he? He said: He comes with your messenger; he does not come with me. So he sent a messenger with me, and we found him sitting among his companions; so he called him and he came; and when we reached the door, I called: Permit Amr ibn al-As, and he called behind me: Permit the party of Allah, mighty and majestic is He; so he heard his voice and permitted him, and he entered, and I entered; and the Negus was upon the couch, with Ja'far sitting before him and his companions around him upon cushions. And Umayr described the couch. Amr said: When I saw his seat, I came until I sat between him and the couch, placing him behind my back, and I seated between every two of his companions a man of my companions. He said: So he fell silent and we fell silent, and he fell silent and we fell silent, until I said to myself: Cursed be this Abyssinian slave, will he not speak. Then he spoke and said: Speak out. Amr said: meaning speak. So I said: The cousin of this man claims people have but one God; and by Allah, if you do not kill him, neither I nor any of my companions shall ever bring you this semen-trade again. So he said: O companions of Amr, what do you say? They said: We are upon what Amr said. So he said: O party of Allah, speak. He said: So Ja'far testified, and Amr said: By Allah, it was the first day I heard the testimony, that day. So he said: I testify there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. He said: And you, what do you say? He said: I am upon his religion. He said: So he raised his hand and placed it upon his forehead, as Ibn Awn described, then said: A revelation like the revelation of Musa? What does he say concerning Isa? He said: He says: The spirit of Allah and His word. He said: So he took something from the ground, unerring, like this, and said: Were it not for my kingdom I would have followed you. Go, you O Amr; by Allah, I care not whether you or any of your companions ever come to me again. And go, you O party of Allah, for you are safe; whoever fights you I shall kill him, and whoever robs you I shall fine him. And he said to his chamberlain: Watch this man and do not veil him from me except when I am with my family; if I am with my family, inform him, and if he refuses but to be permitted, then permit him. He said: One evening I met him in the lane, and I looked behind him and saw no one behind him; so I took his hand and said: Do you know that I testify there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah? He said: So he pinched me and said: Are you upon this; and we parted. And it was only that I came to my companions, and it was as though they had witnessed me and him; so they asked me nothing until they seized me and threw me down, placing a velvet cloth upon my face, pinching me, while I would free my head at times, until I slipped away naked with not a peel upon me, leaving me nothing but they took it. So I took a woman's veil from her head and placed it upon my private part; and she said to me so, and I said so, as though she marveled at me. He said: And I came to Ja'far and entered his house; and when he saw me he said: What is the matter with you? I said: It is only that I came to my companions, and it was as though they had witnessed me and you; so they asked me nothing until they cast a velvet cloth upon my face, smothering me with it, and took everything of this world that was mine; and you see upon me nothing but the veil of an Abyssinian woman which I took from her head. So he said: Go; and we reached the door of the Negus, and he called: Permit the party of Allah. And his chamberlain came and said: He is with his family. So he said: Ask permission for me; so he asked permission for him and he permitted him; and when he entered he said: Amr has left his religion and followed my religion. He said: No. He said: Yes. So he called his chamberlain and said: Go to Amr and say to him: This man claims you have left your religion and followed his religion. So I said: Yes. And my companions came to me until we stood at the door of the house; and I wrote down everything until I wrote down the handkerchief, leaving nothing taken but I seized it; and had I wished to take from their wealth, I would have done so. He said: Then afterwards I was among those who came in the ships as Muslims. And this hadith, we do not know it narrated from Ja'far, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), with this wording except through this channel with this chain.
