8265 - Ahmad ibn Mansur ibn Sayyar narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, he said: Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Ata ibn Yazid, from Abu Hurayrah and Abu Sa'id, that the people said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): Will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Do you dispute about the moon on the night of full moon when there is no cloud below it? They said: No. He said: Do you dispute about seeing the sun when there is no cloud below it? They said: No. He said: Then you will see Him likewise. People will be detained on the Day of Resurrection, then it will be said: Whoever used to worship something, let him follow it. Some will follow the sun, some will follow the moon, and some will follow the false gods, and this ummah will remain with its hypocrites among it until He, Blessed and Exalted, comes to them and says: I am your Lord. They will say: You are our Lord. Then Allah will strike across the midst of Hell, and I will be the first of the Messengers to cross with my ummah, and none will speak that day except the Messengers, and the supplication of the Messengers that day will be: O Allah, grant safety, grant safety. And in Hell are hooks like the thorns of al-Sa'dan. Have you seen the thorns of al-Sa'dan? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: They are like the thorns of al-Sa'dan, snatching people by their deeds; some will be scratched down, and some will be saved, until when Allah, Blessed and Exalted, intends mercy for whom He wills among the people of the Fire, Allah commands that whoever used to worship Allah be brought out, so they bring them out, recognizing them by the trace of prostration, for Allah has forbidden the Fire to consume the trace of prostration. They come out of the Fire having been scorched, then the water of life is poured over them, and they grow in it as the seed grows in the silt of the flood. Then Allah, Blessed and Exalted, finishes judging between the servants, and there remains a man between Paradise and Hell, the last of the people of Paradise to enter Paradise, facing the Fire. He says: O my Lord, turn my face away from the Fire, for its wind has poisoned me and its flame has burned me. Allah, Blessed and Exalted, says: Perhaps if I do that for you, you will ask Me for something else? He says: No, by Your might. He gives his Lord whatever covenant and pledge He wills, so Allah turns his face from the Fire. When he faces Paradise and sees its splendor, he remains silent as long as Allah wills him to remain silent, then says: O my Lord, bring me forward to the gate of Paradise. Allah says: Did you not give the covenants and pledges that you would not ask for other than what you asked? He says: O my Lord, let me not be the most wretched of Your creation. He says: Perhaps if I grant you that, you will ask Me for something else? He says: No, by Your might, I will not ask You for other than that. He gives his Lord whatever covenant and pledge He wills, so He brings him forward to the gate of Paradise. When he reaches its gate and it opens for him, and he sees its blossom and the freshness and joy within, he remains silent as long as Allah wills, then says: O my Lord, admit me into Paradise. He, Blessed and Exalted, says: How treacherous you are! You gave the covenants and pledges that you would not ask for other than what you were given. He says: O my Lord, do not make me the most wretched of Your creation. So Allah, Blessed and Exalted, laughs at him, then permits him to enter Paradise, then says: Wish. When his wishes are exhausted, Allah says to him, and his Lord reminds him, until when his wishes end, Allah says to him: Yours is that and the like of it with it. Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Yours is that and ten times its like. Abu Hurayrah said: I only memorized from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: Yours is that and the like of it with it. Abu Sa'id said: I bear witness that I heard him say: Yours is that and ten times its like. And this hadith was narrated by Shu'ayb and Mu'awiyah ibn Yahya, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab and Ata ibn Yazid, from Abu Hurayrah and Abu Sa'id.
