7795 - Umar ibn al-Khattab narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Yaman al-Hakam ibn Nafi' narrated to us, he said: Shu'ayb ibn Abi Hamza narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id and Ata ibn Zayd, that Abu Hurayra informed them that people said: O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Do you dispute about the moon on the night of full moon with no cloud below it? They said: No. He said: Do you dispute about the sun with no cloud below it? They said: No. He said: You will see Him likewise. People will be detained on the Day of Resurrection, then it will be said: Whoever used to worship something, let him follow it. Among them is one who follows the sun, among them one who follows the moon, among them one who follows the tyrants, and this umma remains, with its hypocrites in it, and He, blessed and exalted, comes to them and says: I am your Lord. They say: You are our Lord. Then the bridge is struck across the midst of Hell, and I will be the first of the messengers to cross with my umma, and none speaks that day except the messengers, and the supplication of the messengers that day is: O Allah, save, save. And in Hell are hooks like the thorn of al-Sa'dan. Have you seen the thorn of al-Sa'dan? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: They are like the thorn of al-Sa'dan, snatching people by their deeds. Among them is one mangled, or he said: torn, and among them one who is saved, until when Allah, blessed and exalted, intends mercy for whom He wills of the people of the Fire, Allah, blessed and exalted, commands the angels to bring out whoever used to worship Allah, and they bring them out recognizing them by the marks of prostration. Allah has forbidden the Fire to eat the mark of prostration. So they emerge from the Fire charred, and water of life is poured over them, and they grow as a grain grows in the flood's carried soil. Then Allah, blessed and exalted, finishes judging between servants. And while a man is between Paradise and Fire, he is the last of the people of Paradise to enter Paradise, facing the Fire with his face, and says: O Lord, turn my face from the Fire, for its wind has poisoned me and its flame has burned me. He, blessed and exalted, says: Perhaps if I do that for you, you will ask Me for other than that. He says: No, by Your might. And he gives his Lord what He wills of covenant and pledge. So Allah turns his face from the Fire. When he turns to Paradise and sees its splendor, he is silent as long as Allah wills him to be silent, then says: O Lord, bring me to the gate of Paradise. Allah, blessed and exalted, says: Did you not give covenants and pledges that you would not ask for other than what you asked? He says: O Lord, let me not be the most wretched of Your creation. He says: Perhaps if I give you, you will ask Me for other? He says: No, by Your might, I will not ask You for other than that. And he gives his Lord what He wills of covenant and pledge. So Allah, blessed and exalted, brings him to the gate of Paradise. When he reaches its gate it opens for him, and he sees its blossom and what is in it of freshness and joy, and is silent as long as Allah wills him to be silent, then says: O Lord, admit me to Paradise. He, blessed and exalted, says: O son of Adam, how treacherous you are. You gave covenants and pledges that you would not ask for other than what you were given. He says: O Lord, do not make me the most wretched of Your creation. He, blessed and exalted, laughs at him, then permits him to enter Paradise, then says: Wish. And he wishes, until when his wishes are cut off, Allah, blessed and exalted, says: Such, his Lord reminding him, until when his wishes end, Allah, exalted, says: For you is that and its like with it. Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: That and ten times its like. Abu Hurayra said: I remembered from the Messenger of Allah only that he said: For you is that and its like with it. Abu Sa'id said: I bear witness I heard him saying: For you is that and ten times its like. And this hadith Ma'mar and Ibrahim ibn Sa'd and others narrated, from al-Zuhri, from Ata ibn Yazid, from Abu Hurayra and Abu Sa'id, and we do not know anyone joined Ata ibn Yazid and Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib except Shu'ayb ibn Abi Hamza, and Mu'awiya ibn Yahya al-Sadafi agreed on Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib and Ata ibn Yazid, and Shu'ayb is more reliable.
