1595 - (4351) - Narrated Abu al-Rabi al-Zahrani, narrated Hammad, narrated Mabad ibn Hilal al-Anazi, he said: A group of the people of Basra gathered, and I was among them, and we came to Anas ibn Malik and sought intercession to him through Thabit al-Bunani, so we entered upon him, and he seated Thabit with him on the bed, and I said: Do not ask him about anything other than this hadith. Thabit said: O Abu Hamza, your brothers from the people of Basra have come asking you about the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about intercession. He said: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) narrated to us, he said: When the Day of Resurrection comes, people will surge into one another, then Adam will be approached, and they will say: O Adam, intercede for your offspring. He will say: I am not for it, but go to Ibrahim, for he is the close friend of Allah. Then Ibrahim will be approached, and he will say: I am not for it, but upon you is Musa, for he is the one spoken to by Allah. Then Musa, the chosen of Allah, will be approached, and he will say: I am not for it, but upon you is Isa, for he is the Spirit of Allah and His Word. Then Isa will be approached, and he will say: I am not for it, but upon you is Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then I will be approached, and I will say: I am for it. So I will set out and ask permission upon my Lord, and permission will be given to me, and I will stand before Him in a station, and I will be inspired therein with praises that I cannot do now, and I will praise Him with those praises, then I will fall to Him prostrating. Then it will be said to me: O Muhammad, raise your head, speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and you will be granted intercession. Then I will say: My Lord, my nation, my nation. Then it will be said to me: Go, and whoever has in his heart the weight of a grain of wheat or barley of faith, then bring him out. So I will go and do so, then I will return and praise Him with those praises, then fall to Him prostrating. Then it will be said: O Muhammad, raise your head, speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and you will be granted intercession. Then I will say: My Lord, my nation, my nation. Then it will be said to me: Go, and whoever has in his heart the weight of an atom or mustard seed of faith, then bring him out of it. Then it will be said to me: Go, and whoever has in his heart less than less than the weight of a mustard grain of faith, then bring him out of the Fire, of the Fire, of the Fire. When we returned from Anas, I said to my companions: What about al-Hasan? And he was in hiding in the house of Abu Khalifa among Abd al-Qays. So we came to him and entered upon him, and we said: We came from your brother Anas, and we did not hear the like of what he narrated to us about intercession. He said: How did he narrate to you? So we narrated the hadith to him until when we reached, he said: More! We said: He did not add to us beyond this. He said: He had narrated this hadith to us when he was all together, he narrated to me twenty years ago, and he has indeed left something, and I do not know whether the old man forgot or disliked to narrate it to you lest you rely. He narrated to me, then he said in the fourth time: Then I will return and fall to Him prostrating, then I will praise with those praises. Then it will be said to me: O Muhammad, raise your head, speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and you will be granted intercession. Then I will say: My Lord, permit regarding whoever said: There is no god but Allah, truthfully by it. He said: Then it will be said: It is not for you, but by My Might, My Pride and My Greatness, I shall surely bring out of it whoever said: There is no god but Allah. He said: So I bear witness upon al-Hasan that he narrated this hadith to us on the day Anas narrated.
