Abu Khaythamah narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, from al-Amash, from Bukayr al-Jazari, from Sahl Abu al-Aswad, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: We were in a house, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood at the door of the house and said: The leaders are from Quraysh, and I have a right over you, and they have a like of it over you, as long as they do three things: when they are asked for mercy, they show mercy; when they judge, they are just; and when they covenant, they fulfill. Whoever of them does not do that, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people.
