فَقَالَ : اغْتَسِلِي وَاسْتَثْفِرِي بِثَوْبٍ ، ثُمَّ أَهِلِّي ، فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - حَتَّى إِذَا اسْتَوَتْ بِهِ نَاقَتُهُ عَلَى الْبَيْدَاءِ أَهَلَّ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ : لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ ، وَلَبَّى النَّاسُ ، وَالنَّاسُ يَزِيدُونَ ذَا الْمَعَارِجِ وَنَحْوَهُ مِنَ الْكَلَامِ ، وَالنَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَسْمَعُ فَلَا يَقُولُ لَهُمْ شَيْئًا ، فَنَظَرْتُ مَدَّ بَصَرِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مِنْ رَاكِبٍ وَمَاشٍ ، وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ ، وَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ ، وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ ، قَالَ جَابِرٌ : وَرَسُولُ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا يَنْزِلُ الْقُرْآنُ وَهُوَ يَعْرِفُ تَأْوِيلَهُ ، وَمَا عَمِلَ بِهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ عَمِلْنَاهُ ، قَالَ : فَخَرَجْنَا لَا نَنْوِي إِلَّا الْحَجَّ ، حَتَّى [4/94] إِذَا أَتَيْنَا الْكَعْبَةَ اسْتَلَمَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ - Abu Khaythamah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Said narrated to us, from Jafar ibn Muhammad, from his father who said: We came to Jabir ibn Abdullah while he was in Banu Salimah, and asked him about the Hajj of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed in Madinah nine years without performing Hajj. Then it was announced among the people that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would perform Hajj this year. Many people descended upon Madinah, all seeking to follow the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and do as he did. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out with five days remaining of Dhu al-Qadah, and we set out until we reached Dhu al-Hulayfah. Asma gave birth to Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, so she sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): What should I do? He said: Take a bath, wrap yourself with a cloth, then enter ihram. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out until, when his camel stood level with him on al-Bayda, he entered ihram with tawhid: Here I am, O Allah, here I am; here I am, You have no partner, here I am; praise and blessing are Yours, and dominion; You have no partner. The people also recited talbiyah, the people adding words like possessor of lofty ranks and such speech, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard but said nothing to them. I looked as far as my sight reached before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): riders and walkers, the same behind him, the same on his right, the same on his left. Jabir said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was among us; the Quran was being revealed and he knew its interpretation, and whatever he did of it, we did. He said: We set out intending only Hajj, until when we reached the Kabah, the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) touched the Black Stone, then ran three circuits and walked four, until when he finished he went to the Station of Ibrahim and prayed two rakahs behind it, reciting: And take the Station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer. He said: He recited in them al-Tawhid and Say: O disbelievers. Then he touched the Stone, then went out to al-Safa, then said: We begin with what Allah began with, and recited: Indeed al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. He climbed al-Safa until, when he looked at the House, he magnified Allah, then said: There is no god but Allah alone, without partner; His is dominion and His is praise, and He is over all things capable; there is no god but Allah alone; He fulfilled His promise, aided His servant, and defeated the Confederates alone. Then he supplicated and returned to these words, then descended until, when his feet poured into the valley, he ran, until when he ascended he walked, until when he reached al-Marwah he climbed it, until when he looked at the House he said upon it as he said upon al-Safa. When he was on the seventh at al-Marwah, he said: O people, had I known beforehand what I know now, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal and would have made it umrah; whoever does not have a sacrificial animal with him, let him exit ihram and make it umrah. All the people exited ihram. Suraqah ibn Jushum said: O Messenger of Allah, is this for this year of ours or forever? He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) interlaced his fingers, saying: Rather forever, three times; umrah has entered into Hajj until the Day of Resurrection. Ali arrived from Yemen, bringing sacrificial animals with him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had brought sacrificial animals with him from Madinah. Then Fatimah had exited ihram, wearing dyed clothes and kohl, saying: My father commanded me. Ali disapproved of that in her. He said: Jafar said: This phrase Jabir ibn Abdullah did not mention. Ali said in Kufah: I went forth disputing, seeking confirmation from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about what Fatimah mentioned. I said: O Messenger of Allah, Fatimah has exited ihram, wearing dyed clothes and kohl, saying: My father commanded me with it. He said: She spoke the truth, she spoke the truth, she spoke the truth; I commanded her with it. Then he returned to the hadith of Jabir, saying to Ali: With what did you enter ihram? He said: I said: O Allah, I enter ihram with what Your Messenger enters ihram with, and I have the sacrificial animal with me. He said: Then do not exit ihram. He said: The total of the sacrificial animals the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) brought and Ali brought was one hundred. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) slaughtered sixty-three with his hand and gave to Ali, who slaughtered the rest, associating him in his sacrifice. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered a piece from every camel, placed in a pot; they ate of its meat and drank of its broth. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I have sacrificed here, and all of Mina is a place of sacrifice. He stood then said: I have stood here, and all of Arafah is a standing place. He stood at al-Muzdalifah and said: I have stood here, and all of al-Muzdalifah is a standing place.
