Mansur ibn Abi Muzahim narrated to us, Abu Uways narrated to us, from al-Zuhri: that Salim ibn Abdullah narrated to him, that he heard a man from Sham asking Abdullah ibn Umar about one performing tamattu with Umrah to Hajj; Abdullah said: It is lawful. The Syrian said: But your father forbade it. Abdullah said: What if my father forbade it while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) practiced it; do you follow the command of my father or the command of the Messenger of Allah? The Syrian said: Rather the command of the Messenger of Allah. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) practiced it.

Al-Hasan ibn Ismail narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sad narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from Ibn Umar: that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Your remaining lifespan compared to the nations before you is like the time between Asr prayer and sunset: the people of the Torah were given the Torah and worked until midday then failed, and were given a qirat each; the Christians were given the Gospel and worked until Asr prayer then failed, and were given a qirat each; then we were given the Quran and worked from Asr prayer until sunset, and were given two qirats each; so the Jews and Christians said: O our Lord, we worked more than them yet You gave us one qirat each. So He, Blessed and Exalted, said: Have I wronged you anything of your wages? They said: No. He said: It is My bounty, I give it to whom I will.
