Harb ibn Surayj reports from a man of Baladawiyyah, from his grandfather, who said that he set out to Madinah and halted at the valley where two men stood disputing over a single goat, the buyer urging the seller to deal fairly with him, and he wondered within himself whether this Hashimi who had led people astray was present, then he looked and saw a man of handsome build, broad forehead, fine nose and fine eyebrows, with black hair like a black thread from the hollow of his throat to his navel, wrapped in two worn garments. He drew near and greeted them with peace, which they returned, and the buyer soon called upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to bid the seller deal fairly, whereupon he extended his hand and admonished them concerning their property and his hope of meeting Allah on the Day of Resurrection without any claim of wrongdoing in wealth, blood or honour, and invoked mercy upon the gentle seller, buyer, taker, giver, payer and claimant, then went on. The narrator resolved to follow him for the beauty of his speech, addressed him by name, and he turned to him fully asking what he wanted, whereupon he charged him with misleading and ruining people and barring them from what their fathers worshipped, and he answered that such worship belonged to Allah, and that he called the servants of Allah to Allah, testifying that none is worthy of worship but Allah and that he, Muhammad, is the Messenger of Allah, commanding belief in what was revealed to him, disbelief in al-Lat and al-Uzza, establishment of prayer and payment of zakah, which he explained as the rich returning wealth to their poor, and the narrator declared it an excellent call. He added that none on earth had been more hateful to him than he, yet he did not leave him until he became dearer to him than his child, his father and all mankind. He professed recognition, affirmed the testimony and belief, and told the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he frequented a water visited by many people and would invite them to what he had invited him to, hoping they would follow him, and he permitted him to invite them, so the men and women of that water embraced Islam, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stroked his head. > **"Peace be upon you. You own your wealth. I hope to meet Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection with none of you seeking from me anything wherein I wronged him in wealth, blood or honour, except by its right. May Allah have mercy upon a man who is gentle in selling, gentle in buying, gentle in taking, gentle in giving, gentle in paying, and gentle in claiming. What do you wish? That is Allah. I call the servants of Allah to Allah. I testify that none is worthy of worship but Allah and that I, Muhammad, am the Messenger of Allah, and you shall believe in what was revealed to me, disbelieve in al-Lat and al-Uzza, establish prayer and give zakah. Our rich shall return wealth to our poor. You have recognized. Do you testify that none is worthy of worship but Allah and that I, Muhammad, am the Messenger of Allah, and do you believe in what was revealed to me? Yes, so invite them."**
