Jabir ibn Abdullah ibn Khuzaymah ibn Thabit, who is not the Ansari, reports that he was once in a caravan belonging to Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her, with the Prophet ﷺ among them prior to the proclamation of prophethood, and that he declared to him his perception of distinguishing qualities in him, his witness that he was the Prophet who would emerge from Tihamah, his present belief in him, and his promise to come upon hearing of his emergence. He was delayed until the day of the Conquest of Makkah, when he came and was greeted by the Prophet ﷺ. He then excused his delay, affirming that he had remained a believer in him, without denying his pledge or breaking his covenant, believing in the Quran and rejecting idols, but that successive years of severe drought had afflicted them after him, wasting marrow and emaciating mounts, drying up milk, spreading distress, breaking fortune, sweeping cultivated lands and offspring, hardening affairs, drying verdant land, and entrenching utter destitution, yet he had come neither breaking his covenant nor denying his pledge. He then asked about the light of day and the darkness of night, the heat of water in winter and its cold in summer, the Secure City, the origin of clouds, the emergence of locusts, thunder and lightning, and the shares of the man and the woman in the child, to which the Prophet ﷺ gave detailed answers. > **"Welcome to the first emigrant. Leave that aside. Allah, blessed and exalted is He, extends His Hand by night for the wrongdoer of the day to repent, and if he repents, Allah turns to him. And He extends His Hand by day for the wrongdoer of the night to repent, and if he repents, Allah turns to him. Truth shall be heavy on account of its weight on the Day of Resurrection, and falsehood shall be light on account of its lightness on the Day of Resurrection. Paradise is enclosed by hardships, and the world is enclosed by desires. As for the darkness of the night and the light of the day: when the sun sets it falls beneath the earth, and the night darkens for that reason, and when morning shines seventy thousand angels hasten toward it while it holds back, disliking to be worshipped besides Allah, until it rises and gives light; the day lengthens with the length of its stay and water grows warm for that reason, and when its stay is short water grows cold for that reason. As for locusts: they are the sneeze of a whale in the sea called al-Abwat, and therein it perishes. As for the origin of clouds: they arise from the direction of the two horizons, and from between the two horizons the easterly and southerly winds bridle them, while the northerly and westerly winds drive them from behind. As for thunder: it is an angel with a striker in his hand, bringing the distant near and sending the near far; when he raises it, lightning flashes, when he rebukes, thunder sounds, and when he strikes, a thunderbolt falls. As for what belongs to the man and what belongs to the woman in the child: bones, veins, and nerves are from the man, and flesh, blood, and hair are from the woman. As for the Secure City: it is Makkah."**
