And Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Qazzaz narrated to us, Musa ibn Ismail narrated to us, both saying: Aban ibn Yazid narrated to us, Yahya ibn Abi Kathir narrated to me that Zayd ibn Sallam narrated to him, from Abu Sallam, from Abu Malik al-Ash'ari, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Purity is half of faith, and praise be to Allah fills the scale, and glory be to Allah and Allah is Greatest fills what is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is light, and charity is proof, and patience is radiance, and the Qur'an is a proof for you or against you, and every person goes out, so he sells himself, freeing it, or selling it, destroying it. And the wording is of the hadith of Musa ibn Ismail. And Muslim said in his hadith: There is no god but Allah and Allah is Greatest fills what is between the heaven and the earth.

And Muhammad ibn al-Fadl al-Saqati narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Sulayman narrated to us, both saying: Musa ibn Khalaf al-Ammi narrated to us, Yahya ibn Abi Kathir narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Sallam, from his grandfather Mamtur, from Abu Malik al-Ash'ari, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Four remain in my ummah of the affair of ignorance, they shall not leave them: boasting of lineages, reviling of ancestors, seeking rain by the stars, and wailing, and the wailing woman, if she does not repent before she dies, shall come on the Day of Resurrection with a garment of tar and a coat of the flame of the Fire. He said: So Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: We left wailing when we left al-Lat and al-Uzza.

3427 - Ali ibn Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, Khalaf ibn Musa ibn Khalaf narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Zayd ibn Sallam, from his grandfather Mamtur, from al-Harith al-Ash'ari, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Allah, mighty and majestic, commanded Yahya ibn Zakariya with five words to act upon them, and to command the Children of Israel to act upon them, and he was about to delay, so Isa said to him: You have been commanded with five words to act upon them and to command the Children of Israel to act upon them, so either you command them, or I shall command them. So he said: Do not do, O my brother, for I fear if you precede me to them that I be punished or swallowed. So he gathered the people in Bayt al-Maqdis until it was full, and they sat upon the balconies, so he praised Allah and extolled Him, then admonished them and said: Allah, mighty and majestic, commanded me with five words, to act upon them and to command you to act upon them. The first of them: That you worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and the like of that is like a man who bought a slave from his pure wealth with gold or silver, and said: This is my house and this is my work, so work and render your work to me, but he worked and rendered his work to other than his master, so which of you would be pleased that his slave be thus, working and rendering his work to other than him? And Allah created you and provided for you, so worship Him and associate nothing with Him. And He commanded you with prayer, so when you pray, do not turn away, for Allah, mighty and majestic, sets His face toward the face of His servant so long as he does not turn away. And He commanded you with fasting, and the like of that is like a man with a group having a bundle of musk, all of them love to find its scent, and the mouth of the fasting person is more fragrant to Allah than the scent of musk. And He commanded you with charity, and the like of that is like one whom the enemy captured, tying his hand to his neck and bringing him near to strike his neck, so he said: I shall ransom myself from you, and kept giving little and much until he freed himself from them. And He commanded you with much remembrance of Allah, and the like of the remembrance of Allah, mighty and majestic, is like a man whom the enemy sought swiftly in his tracks, so he came to a fortified fortress and secured himself in it, and the most secure the servant is from Satan is when he is in the remembrance of Allah, exalted. He said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said thereupon: And I command you with five, Allah commanded me with them: the community, hearing, obedience, emigration, and striving in the path of Allah; so whoever separates from the community a handspan has cast off the yoke of Islam from his neck unless he returns, and whoever calls with the call of ignorance is of the scum of Hell. A man said: O Messenger of Allah, even if he fasts and prays? He said: Even if he fasts and prays.

3430 - Muhammad ibn Abdah al-Missisi narrated to us, Abu Tawbah al-Rabi' ibn Nafi' narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Sallam narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Sallam, from Abu Sallam, al-Harith al-Ash'ari narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Allah, mighty and majestic, commanded Yahya ibn Zakariya with five words to act upon them and to command the Children of Israel to act upon them, and he delayed, so Isa said to him: You have been commanded with five words to act upon them and to command the Children of Israel to act upon them, so either you command them with them, or I shall stand and command them with them. Yahya said: If you precede me with them I fear I shall be punished or swallowed, so he gathered the Children of Israel in Bayt al-Maqdis until the mosque was full and the people sat upon the balconies, so he admonished the people then said: Allah commanded me with five words to act upon them and to command you to act upon them. The first of them: That you associate nothing with Allah, for whoever associates anything with Allah, his like is like a man who bought a slave from his pure wealth with gold or silver, and said: This is my house and my work, so render your work, but he worked and rendered his work to other than his master, so which of you loves that he have a slave thus rendering his work to other than his master, and Allah, mighty and majestic, He created you and provided for you, so associate nothing with Allah. And Allah commanded you with prayer, so when you set your faces, do not turn away, for Allah, mighty and majestic, sets His face toward the face of His servant when he stands praying, and does not turn His face from him until the servant himself turns. And He commanded you with fasting, for the like of the fasting person is like a man with a bundle of musk among a group, none of them having musk but he, all of them desire to find its scent, and the breath of the fasting person's mouth is more fragrant to Allah than the scent of musk. And He commanded you with charity, for its like is like a man whom the enemy took and captured, tying his hand to his neck and bringing him forward to strike his neck, so he said: Do not kill me, for I shall ransom myself from you with such-and-such wealth, so they released him, and he kept gathering for them until he ransomed himself; thus is charity, by it the servant ransoms himself from the punishment of Allah. And He commanded you with much remembrance of Allah, and the like of that is like a man wronged by the enemy who hastened in his pursuit, and he went until he came to a fortified fortress and secured himself in it; thus is Satan, the servants secure themselves from him only by the remembrance of Allah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: And I command you with five words Allah commanded me with them: the community, hearing, obedience, emigration, and striving in the path of Allah; so whoever leaves the community a handspan has cast off the yoke of Islam from his neck unless he returns, and whoever calls with the call of ignorance is of the scum of Hell. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, even if he prays and fasts? He said: Yes, even if he prays and fasts, so call with the call of Allah by which He named you Muslims, believers, servants of Allah.

3430 - ہم سے محمد بن عبدہ مصیصی نے بیان کیا، ہم سے ابو توبہ ربیع بن نافع نے بیان کیا، ہم سے معاویہ بن سلام نے بیان کیا، زید بن سلام سے، ابو سلام سے، مجھے حارث اشعری نے حدیث بیان کی کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اللہ عزوجل نے یحییٰ بن زکریا کو پانچ کلمات کا حکم دیا کہ ان پر عمل کریں اور بنی اسرائیل کو حکم دیں کہ ان پر عمل کریں، تو وہ سستی کرتے تھے، تو عیسیٰ نے ان سے کہا: تمہیں پانچ کلمات کا حکم دیا گیا ہے کہ ان پر عمل کرو اور بنی اسرائیل کو حکم دو کہ ان پر عمل کریں، تو یا تم انہیں ان کا حکم دو، یا میں کھڑا ہو کر انہیں ان کا حکم دوں۔ یحییٰ نے کہا: اگر تم مجھ سے پہلے ان کے ساتھ گئے تو میں ڈرتا ہوں کہ مجھے عذاب دیا جائے یا مجھے دھنسا دیا جائے، تو انہوں نے بنی اسرائیل کو بیت المقدس میں جمع کیا یہاں تک کہ مسجد بھر گئی اور لوگ چھجوں پر بیٹھ گئے، تو لوگوں کو وعظ کیا پھر کہا: اللہ نے مجھے پانچ کلمات کا حکم دیا کہ ان پر عمل کروں اور تمہیں حکم دوں کہ ان پر عمل کرو۔ ان میں پہلا: کہ اللہ کے ساتھ کچھ شریک نہ کرو، کیونکہ جو اللہ کے ساتھ کچھ شریک کرے اس کی مثال اس شخص کی مثل ہے جس نے اپنے خالص مال سے سونے یا چاندی سے غلام خریدا، اور کہا: یہ میرا گھر ہے اور میرا کام ہے تو اپنا کام دے، تو وہ کام کرتا اور اپنا کام اپنے آقا کے سوا کو دیتا، تو تم میں سے کون چاہتا ہے کہ اس کا غلام اسی طرح ہو کہ اپنا کام اپنے آقا کے سوا کو دے، اور اللہ عزوجل ہی نے تمہیں پیدا کیا اور رزق دیا تو اللہ کے ساتھ کچھ شریک نہ کرو۔ اور اللہ نے تمہیں نماز کا حکم دیا، تو جب اپنے چہرے کھڑے کرو تو التفات نہ کرو، کیونکہ اللہ عزوجل اپنا چہرہ اپنے بندے کے چہرے کی طرف کرتا ہے جب وہ نماز پڑھنے کھڑا ہوتا ہے، اور اپنا چہرہ اس سے نہیں پھیرتا یہاں تک کہ بندہ خود پھیرے۔ اور تمہیں روزے کا حکم دیا، کیونکہ روزے دار کی مثال اس شخص کی مثل ہے جس کے ساتھ مشک کی تھیلی ہے اور وہ ایک جماعت میں ہے ان میں سے کسی کے پاس اس کے سوا مشک نہیں، وہ سب اس کی خوشبو پانا چاہتے ہیں، اور روزے دار کے منہ کی بو اللہ کے نزدیک مشک کی خوشبو سے زیادہ پاکیزہ ہے۔ اور تمہیں صدقے کا حکم دیا، کیونکہ اس کی مثال اس شخص کی مثل ہے جسے دشمن نے پکڑا اور قید کیا اور اس کا ہاتھ اس کی گردن سے باندھا اور اسے آگے لائے تاکہ اس کی گردن ماریں، تو اس نے کہا: مجھے نہ مارو، کیونکہ میں تم سے اتنے اتنے مال سے اپنی جان کا فدیہ دوں گا، تو انہوں نے اسے چھوڑ دیا، اور وہ ان کے لیے جمع کرتا رہا یہاں تک کہ اپنی جان کا فدیہ دے دیا، اسی طرح صدقہ ہے بندہ اس سے اپنی جان کو اللہ کے عذاب سے چھڑاتا ہے۔ اور تمہیں کثرت سے اللہ کے ذکر کا حکم دیا، اور اس کی مثال اس شخص کی مثل ہے جس پر دشمن نے ظلم کیا اور تیزی سے اس کی تلاش میں نکلے، اور وہ چلا یہاں تک کہ ایک مضبوط قلعے کے پاس آیا اور اپنی جان اس میں محفوظ کر لی؛ اسی طرح شیطان ہے بندے اپنی جانوں کو اس سے صرف اللہ کے ذکر سے محفوظ کرتے ہیں۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اور میں تمہیں پانچ کلمات کا حکم دیتا ہوں جن کا اللہ نے مجھے حکم دیا: جماعت، سننا، اطاعت، ہجرت، اور اللہ کی راہ میں جہاد؛ تو جو جماعت سے بالشت بھر نکلے اس نے اسلام کا طوق اپنی گردن سے اتار دیا سوائے اس کے کہ لوٹ آئے، اور جو جاہلیت کی پکار سے پکارے وہ جہنم کے جھاگ میں سے ہے۔ کہا گیا: اے اللہ کے رسول، چاہے وہ نماز پڑھے اور روزہ رکھے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ہاں، چاہے وہ نماز پڑھے اور روزہ رکھے، تو اللہ کی پکار سے پکارو جس سے اس نے تمہیں مسلمان، مؤمن، اللہ کے بندے نام دیا۔

3431 - Zakariya ibn Yahya al-Saji narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Yahya ibn Kathir al-Anbari narrated to us, Ali ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Zayd ibn Sallam, from his grandfather, al-Harith al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated to me, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Shall I not command you with five words Allah, mighty and majestic, commanded me with them? The community, hearing, obedience, emigration, and striving in the path of Allah; so whoever leaves the community a handspan has cast off the yoke of Islam from his head unless he returns, and whoever calls with the call of ignorance is of the scum of Hell. A man said: O Messenger of Allah, even if he fasts and prays? He said: Even if he fasts and prays, call with the call of Allah by which He named you Muslims, believers, servants of Allah.

Ibrahim ibn Muqsim, freedman of Hudhayl, from Abu Malik. 3432 - Al-Miqdam ibn Dawud al-Misri narrated to us, Abu al-Aswad al-Nadr ibn Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us, Ibn Luhay'ah narrated to us, from Ayyash ibn Abbas, from Ibrahim ibn Miqsam, freedman of Hudhayl, from Abu Malik al-Ash'ari, that he came with his companions in a ship, with a piebald horse with him, and when they were sent they found many camels of the camels of the polytheists and took them, so Abu Malik ordered them to slaughter a camel of them and seek help with it, then went on foot until he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and informed him of his journey and his companions and the camels they had taken, then returned to his companions, so those with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Give us, O Messenger of Allah, of these camels. So he said: Go to Abu Malik. When they came to him he divided them into fifths: a fifth he sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and took a third of the remainder after the fifth and divided it among his companions, and the remaining two-thirds among the Muslims, divided among them, so they came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: We have seen nothing like what Abu Malik did with this booty. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Had I been, I would have done only as he did.
