Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hadrami narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Numayr narrated to us, Abdullah ibn Idris narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn al-Fadl, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, from Hafs ibn Amr ibn Umayyah al-Damri, he said: I went out, I and Ubaydullah ibn Adiyy ibn al-Khiyar, and we went to the frontier - meaning the frontier of the Romans - then we passed by Hims, where Wahshi was. I said: If we went to him and asked him about his killing of Hamzah, may Allah have mercy on him, how he killed him? We headed toward him, and a man met us while we were asking about him, and said: He is a man overcome by this wine; if you find him sober you will find him an Arab man who will narrate to you whatever hadith you wish, and if you find him otherwise, then turn away from him. We came to him and found him in his courtyard. He looked at Ubaydullah ibn Adiyy and said: The son of Adiyy ibn al-Khiyar? He said: Yes. He said: I have not seen you since your Sa'di mother handed you to me and no sooner did your feet gleam to me than I knew you. He said: I said to him: We came to you to tell us about your killing of Hamzah, how you killed him? He said: I was a slave of Jubayr ibn Mutim, and his uncle Tuaymah ibn Adiyy had been killed on the day of Badr. He said: If you kill the uncle of Muhammad for my uncle, you are free. So I went out on the day of Uhud among the people with my spear, and my only concern was to be freed. I made Hamzah my business and headed for him, while Siba ibn Abd al-Uzza went before me to him. He said: I turned from him while he was cutting people with his sword, as if he were a dusty-gray camel. When Siba went before me to him, Hamzah said: Come, O son of the cutter of clitorises. He said: He drew near to him and struck him, as if he missed him. I hid behind something and shook my spear until I was satisfied with it, then I threw it, and it fell in his groin. He said: He tried to rise and was overcome. I withdrew and returned among the people to Makkah, and was freed. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) conquered Makkah, I went out to Taif and stayed there. When the people of Taif agreed to make peace with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the ways became straitened for me, and I kept thinking where to go. While I was in my worry, a man met me and said: Why do I see you like this? I said: I did to this man what I did to his uncle, and I see these people have agreed to make peace with him, so I do not know where to go. He said: By Allah, he does not kill anyone who comes to him and bears his testimony. So I went out as I was, and by Allah I did not realize until I stood over his head in Madinah. He raised his head and looked at me and said: Wahshi? I said: Wahshi, and I bore his testimony. He said: Woe to you, tell me about your killing of Hamzah, how you killed him? I told him, by Allah, as I told you both. He said: Woe to you, hide your face from me. I used to avoid him until Allah took him. When Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, sent the army to Yamamah, I went out with the people, and I made Musaylimah my business. I charged him, I and a man of the Ansar, with my spear with which I had killed Hamzah. He said: I threw the spear at him, and the Ansari charged him. Your Lord knows best which of us killed him. If I killed him, then I killed the best of people and the worst of people.
