Chapter on the sermon of Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her. 300 - Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Imran al-Asbahani narrated to us, Musa ibn Abdir-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Ali ibn Ahmad as-Sadusi narrated to us, from his father, he said: It reached Aishah that some people were disparaging Abu Bakr, so she sent for a group of them, and let down her curtains, and she reproached and rebuked, and said: My father, and what of my father; my father, hands cannot reach him. How far! By Allah, that was a lofty peak and an extended shade. By Allah, he succeeded when you denied, and he led when you lagged; the steed led when it took the lead to the goal, a youth of Quraysh in his youth and a refuge in his old age, freeing its captive, enriching its poor, mending its breach, and gathering its disarray, until hearts adorned him with love. Then he entrenched himself in his religion, and his firmness for the sake of Allah did not cease, until he took in his courtyard a mosque in which he revived what the nullifiers had killed. And he, may the mercy of Allah be upon him, was copious in tears, restrained in his inner feelings, choked with sobbing. So the women and children of Makkah gathered toward him, mocking him and ridiculing him, while Allah mocks them and extends them in their transgression wandering blindly. Then the men of Quraysh reproached that much, so they bent their bows and fixed their arrows, and they took him as a target, but they did not split for him any rock, nor did they break for him any spear, and he passed on upon his firm course, until religion struck with its spears, and laid down its burden, and its pegs were fixed, and people entered into it in crowds, and from every faction in companies and scattered groups. Then Allah chose for His Prophet what is with Him. When Allah, Mighty and Majestic, took him, Satan pitched his pavilion, and set up his snares, and stretched his ropes, and assailed with his cavalry and infantry. So the rope of Islam shook, and its covenant became confused, and its people surged, and its firmly twisted cord returned undone, and calamities sought opportunity, and men thought their greedy hopes had come true, but far from it, the time when they return, while as-Siddiq was among them. So he stood bared and girded, so he raised his hem, and gathered his scattered part, so he restored the spread of Islam to its freshness, and gathered its disarray by folding it, and straightened its crookedness by his inspiration. So hypocrisy shrank at his tread, and religion was lifted by his lifting. When he restored the truth to its people, and settled heads upon their shoulders, and spared blood in its vessels, his death came. So he closed its breach with his brother in mercy and his counterpart in conduct and justice, that is Ibn al-Khattab. For Allah is a mother who bore him, and poured forth upon him. He stood alone against the ugliness of disbelief and its excess, and he scattered polytheism far and wide, and he grazed the land and made it kneel, so it yielded its produce and cast out its filth at his head, and he gave charity from it and confronted it, and disdained it. Then he was Godfearing in it, then he left it as he had accompanied it. So show me what you say? And which of the two days of my father do you resent, the day of his staying when he was just among you, or the day of his departure when he looked out for you. I say this saying of mine and I seek forgiveness from Allah for me and for you.
