He said: No, but I sold them to him on credit. So Ali said: Go back and say to him: O Messenger of Allah, if something happens to you, who will settle my due? And see what he says to you, then come back to me and inform me. So he said: O Messenger of Allah, if something happens to you, who will settle for me? He said: Abu Bakr. So he informed Ali, and he said to him: Go back and ask him: If something happens to Abu Bakr, who will settle for me? So he asked him and he said: Umar. So he came and informed Ali, and he said to him: Go back and ask him: When Umar dies, who will settle for me? So he came and asked him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Woe to you, when Umar dies, if you can die, then die.
