Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hadrami narrated to us: Umar ibn Abi al-Rutayl narrated to us: Habib ibn Khalid al-Asadi narrated to us, from Sulayman al-A'mash, from Abdullah ibn al-Mughirah, from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), died, and we went out with him. We saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) anxious and intensely grieved, and we would not speak to him until we reached the grave, and it was not yet finished being dug as a lahd (niche grave). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sat down and we sat around him; he spoke to himself for a while and kept looking at the sky. Then the grave was finished, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) descended into it, and I saw him growing more grieved. Then he finished and came out, and I saw that his distress had been lifted from him and he smiled (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). We said: O Messenger of Allah, we saw you anxious and grieved such that we could not speak to you, then we saw your distress lifted - why was that? He said: I was remembering the narrowness and distress of the grave and the weakness of Zaynab, and that weighed upon me. So I supplicated to Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) to lighten it for her, and He did. She was indeed squeezed with a squeeze heard by all between the horizons except the jinn and mankind.
