3590 - And Ahmad ibn Shu'ayb narrated to us, he said: Ishaq ibn Ibrahim informed us, he said: I read to Abu Qurrah Musa ibn Tariq, from Ibn Jurayj, he said: Abdullah ibn Uthman ibn Khuthaym narrated to me, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir: that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when he returned from the Umrah of al-Ji'ranah, sent Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, over the pilgrimage. Until when we were at al-Arj, he called the dawn prayer, then straightened to say the takbir, and heard the grunting behind his back, so he stopped from the takbir and said: This is the grunting of the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has changed his mind concerning the pilgrimage, and perhaps it is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so we pray with him. And behold Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, upon her. So Abu Bakr said to him: A commander or a messenger? He said: No, but a messenger; the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent me with Bara'ah to recite it to the people in the stations of the pilgrimage. So we came to Makkah; and when it was a day before al-Tarwiyah, Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, stood and addressed the people, and told them of their rites, until when he finished, Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. Then we went out with him until when it was the Day of Arafah, Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, stood and addressed the people and told them of their rites, until when he finished, Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. Then it was the Day of Sacrifice and we poured forth; when Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, returned, he addressed the people and told them of their pouring forth and of their sacrifice and of their rites; when he finished, Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. When it was the first day of departure, Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, stood and addressed the people, and told them how they depart and how they stone, and taught them their rites; when he finished, Ali stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. Abu Ja'far said: So a speaker said: There has been narrated from Abu Hurayrah what indicated that the call with these things which in what you narrated are attributed to Ali was by the command of Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him.
