نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ بِالإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةَ، نَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ ، حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرٌ ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَةٍ، فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي التَّطَوُّعَ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الشَّرْقِ، فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ نَزَلَ فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ" . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: مُحَمَّدٌ هُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ نَسَبُهُ إِلَى جَدِّهِ"

From us Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Maymun in Alexandria, from us Al-Walid bin Muslim Al-Dimashqi, on the authority of Al-Awza’i, on the authority of Yahya bin Abi Kathir On the authority of Muhammad bin Thawban, Jabir told me, he said: “We were with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, on a campaign, and he was praying the obligatory prayer on his camel. Facing the east, so when he wanted to pray the obligatory prayer, he descended and faced the Qiblah.” Abu Bakr said: Muhammad is the son of Abdul Rahman bin Thawban, his lineage goes back to his grandfather.

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ہم نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ ایک جنگ میں شریک تھے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نفل نماز اپنی سواری پر مشرق کی جانب منہ کر کے پڑھتے تھے۔ پھر جب فرض نماز پڑھنا چاہتے تو نیچے اُتر کر قبلہ رخ ہوکر پڑھتے۔ امام ابوبکر رحمه الله فرماتے ہیں کہ محمد بن ثوبان سے مراد محمد بن عبدالرحمٰن بن ثوبان ہے اس کی نسبت (باپ کے بجائے) اس کے دادا ثوبان کی طرف گئی ہے۔
