ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib رضي الله عنه said that when Friday comes, the devils go out driving the people to their markets with banners, while the angels sit upon the doors of the mosques recording the people according to their ranks, the foremost and the next who prays after him, until the Imām comes out. Then whoever draws near to the Imām, listens attentively, and does not engage in idle talk will have two shares of reward, and whoever stays far from him, listens, remains silent, and does not engage in idle talk will have one share of reward. And whoever draws near to the Imām but engages in idle talk, neither remaining silent nor listening, will bear two shares of sin, and whoever stays far from him but engages in idle talk, neither remaining silent nor listening, will bear one share of sin. And whoever says "Be silent" has spoken, and whoever speaks has no Friday. Then he said, "Thus did I hear your Prophet ﷺ": > **"When Friday comes, the devils go out driving the people to their markets with banners, while the angels sit upon the doors of the mosques recording the people according to their ranks, the foremost and the next who prays after him, until the Imām comes out.
