1270 - Abd al-Warith ibn Ibrahim Abu Ubayda al-Askari narrated to us, Sayf ibn Miskin narrated to us, Abu al-Ashhab narrated to us, from Amir al-Sha'bi, from Fatima bint Qays, who said: I heard the caller of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) calling: Prayer in congregation. So I went out among women of the Ansar until we came to the mosque, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed with us the noon prayer, then ascended the pulpit and faced us laughing, then said: By Allah, I gathered you not for a new desire nor for fear, but for a hadith narrated to me by Tamim al-Dari, who came to me, embraced Islam and pledged allegiance. He informed me that he boarded with thirty men of Lakhm and Judham, two tribes of the tribes of the Arabs of Yemen, and they encountered the sea when it was agitated, so the waves played with them for a month, then cast them near sunset upon an island of the islands of the sea. Then we were met by a hairy beast whose front could not be distinguished from its back. We said: What are you, O beast? So it spoke to us by Allah's permission with a fluent eloquent tongue, saying: I am al-Jassasa. We said: What is al-Jassasa? It said: Away from me; upon you is that monastery at the far end of the island, for in it is a man most eager for your news. So we came to the monastery, and there we were met by a man, the greatest man I ever saw in creation and the stoutest in body, with his right eye wiped out, as if his eye were phlegm on a plastered wall, with his hands chained to his neck, and his legs bound with shackles from his knees to his feet. So we said to him: What are you, O man? He said: As for my news, you have come upon it, but inform me of your news: what cast you upon this island? And this island, no human has reached it since I came to it. So he said to us: Inform me of the Lake of Tiberias, what has become of it? We said to him: About which of its matters do you ask? He said: Has its water receded? And have wonders begun in it? We said to him: No. He said: It will be. Then he was silent a while, then said: Inform me of the spring of Zughar, what has become of it? We said to him: About which of its matters? He said: Do its people cultivate upon it? We said to him: Yes. He said: It will be that its water will sink and its people will not cultivate upon it. Then he was silent a while, then said: Inform me of the palms of Baysan, what has become of them? We said to him: About which of their matters do you ask? He said: Do they bear fruit? We said to him: Yes. He said: They will not bear fruit. Then he was silent a while, then said: Inform me of the unlettered Prophet, what has become of him? We said to him: About which of his matters do you ask? He said: Has he appeared yet? We said: Yes. He said: What did the Arabs do with him? We said: Among them are those who fought him, and among them are those who believed him. So he said: Whoever believed him is better for him - three times. So we said: Inform us of your news, O man. So he said: Do you not know me? We said: Had we known you, we would not have asked you. He said: I am the Dajjal. It is near that I will be permitted to come out. When I come out, I will tread all the islands of the Arabs except Mecca and Tayba; whenever I intend them, an angel with a drawn sword meets me and turns me away from them. Abu al-Ashhab said: Amir said: Fatima said: So I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raising his hands until I saw the whiteness of his armpits, then he said: Shall I not inform you that this is Tayba - three times - then he said: Shall I not inform you that he is toward Syria. Then he fainted for a while, then trembled, then it was lifted from him, then he said: Rather he is in Yemen - three times - then he fainted for a while, trembled, then it was lifted from him, and he said: Rather he is toward Iraq, rather he is toward Iraq, rather he is toward Iraq. He will come out when he comes out from a town called Asbahan, from one of its villages called Rastqabadh. He will come out when he comes out with seventy thousand at his vanguard wearing garments of coarse cloth, with him two rivers, a river of water and a river of fire. Whoever of you reaches that, and is told: Enter the water, let him not enter it, for it is fire; and when he is told: Enter the fire, let him enter it, for it is water.
