Ulayy ibn Rabah al-Lakhmi from Jubayr ibn Mut'im. 1609 - Al-Miqdam ibn Dawud al-Misri narrated to us, Abu al-Aswad al-Nadr ibn Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us, Ibn Luhay'ah informed us, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Amir ibn Yahya, from Ulayy ibn Rabah, who narrated to him, from Jubayr ibn Mut'im, who said: I used to hate the harm Quraysh did to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so when I thought they would kill him I left until I reached one of the monasteries. The people of the monastery went to their chief and told him, and he said three times: He has the right due to him. When three days passed and they saw he had not left, they went to their chief and told him. He said: Tell him: We have fulfilled the right due to you, so if you were an executor of a will, your trust has expired, and if you were one maintaining kinship, it is time for you to go to those you maintain ties with, and if you were a merchant, it is time for you to go out to your trade. He said: I was neither maintaining ties, nor a merchant, and I have no share. So they went to him and told him, and he said: He has some affair, so ask him what his affair is. They came to him and asked him, and he said: No, by Allah, except that I am in the town of Ibrahim, and my cousin claims he is a prophet, and his people harmed him, and I feared they would kill him, so I left so as not to witness that. They went to their chief and told him of my words. He said: Bring him. So I came to him and told him my story. He said: Do you fear they will kill him? I said: Yes. He said: Would you know his likeness if you saw him depicted? I said: Yes, I have known him recently. So he showed him covered pictures, uncovering one picture after another, saying: Do you recognize? And I would say: No, until he uncovered a covered picture, and I said: I have never seen anything more resembling him than this picture, as though his height, his body, and the width between his shoulders. He said: Do you fear they will kill him? He said: I think they have already finished with him. He said: By Allah, they will not kill him, and He will surely kill whoever seeks to kill him, and he is indeed a prophet, and Allah will surely make him triumphant. But his right has become due upon us, so stay as long as you wish and supplicate whatever you wish. He said: I stayed with them a while, then I said: If I obeyed them, I would return to Makkah, and I found they had expelled the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to Madinah. When I arrived, Quraysh came to me and said: Your affair has become clear to us and we know your case, so bring the wealth of the children with you which your father entrusted to you. I said: I would not do this until you separate my head from my body, but let me go and deliver it to them. They said: Upon you is the covenant of Allah and His pact that you shall not eat of his food. He said: I arrived at Madinah, and the news had reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I entered upon him, and he said to me among what he said: I see you are hungry, bring food. I said: I will not eat until I inform you, and if you deem I may eat, I shall eat. So I told him of what they had taken upon me. He said: Fulfil the covenant of Allah, and do not eat of our food nor drink of our drink.
