Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Kathir ibn Hisham narrated, Ja'far ibn Burqan narrated, he said: I heard Yazid ibn al-Asamm narrating from Abu Hurayra, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: People are mines like the mines of gold and silver; the best of them in ignorance (jahiliyya) are the best of them in Islam when they understand (the religion); and souls are assembled troops: those among them that recognized one another united, and those that disavowed one another differed.

al-Walid ibn 'Amr ibn Sukayn narrated to us, Kathir ibn Hisham narrated, Ja'far ibn Burqan narrated, from Yazid ibn al-Asamm, from Abu Hurayra, who said: I have from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) two pouches (of knowledge): I have narrated to you one of them; and had I narrated to you the other, you would have done to me, and you would have done... (i.e. you would have harmed/killed me).

Ibrahim ibn Nasr narrated to us, Abu Nu'aym narrated, Ja'far ibn Burqan narrated, from Yazid ibn al-Asamm, from Abu Hurayra, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who said: Trials will appear, killing (harj) will increase — we said: What is harj? He said: Killing — and knowledge will be taken away. 'Umar said: I did not hear Abu Hurayra ascribe it from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); he said: Indeed the taking of knowledge is not something snatched from the chests of men, but it is the passing away of scholars.

He said: Have you seen the night, how it covers everything — then where is the day? He said: Wherever Allah wills. He said: Likewise, wherever Allah wills.
