12679 - al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Mamari narrated to us, Hisham ibn Ammar narrated to us, Ata ibn Muslim al-Halabi narrated to us, al-Ala ibn al-Musayyab narrated to us, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Ibn Abbas who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave Abu Bakara a young she-camel as gift, and he deemed it small. Then he said to me: Take it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), O my son, and say: We are working people; if you have an older one, send it to us. So I brought it, and he said: Cousin, direct it to the camels of charity. Then I came to him in the mosque and prayed Isha with him, and he said: Do you wish to spend the night with your aunt tonight? Evening has come. So I coincided with her night with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I came to her, she gave me supper and spread for me a cloak folded in four, and I lay on it. I said: I shall surely learn what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) does tonight. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered and said: O Maymunah. She said: At your service, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Has your nephew come to you? She said: Yes, here he is. He said: Did you not give him supper if you had anything? She said: I did. He said: And did you spread for him? She said: Yes. So he leaned to his bed but did not lie on it; he lay beside it and placed his head on the bed, and remained a while. I heard him snore in sleep, so I said: He has slept and will not wake, and will not stand tonight. Then he rose when, as I reckoned, a quarter or a third of the night had gone. He took his tooth-stick and ablution water and used the stick until I heard the grating of his teeth under it, while reciting these verses: Indeed in the creation of the heavens and the earth. Then he put down the stick, then stood to a waterskin, untied its thong. I wished to rise and pour for him, but I feared he might leave something of his practice. When he performed ablution he entered his prayer place and prayed four rakahs, reciting in each rakah about fifty verses, lengthening bowing and prostration in them. Then he came to his resting place and lay down a while and snored while asleep. I said: He will not stand tonight until morning. When two-thirds or half of the night or about that had gone, he rose and did the like; he entered his prayer place and prayed four rakahs about as long. Then he came to his bed and reclined on it and snored. I said: Sleep has overcome him; he will not stand until morning. Then he rose when a sixth of the night or less remained; he used the tooth-stick, then performed ablution, then entered his prayer place and magnified Allah, opening with the Opening of the Book, then reciting: Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High. Then he bowed and prostrated, then stood and recited the Opening of the Book, then recited: Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High. Then he bowed and prostrated, then stood and recited the Opening of the Book and: Say: O disbelievers. Then he bowed and prostrated, then stood with the Opening of the Book and: Say: O disbelievers. Then he bowed and prostrated, then stood and recited the Opening of the Book and: Say: He is Allah, One. Then he supplicated, bowed and prostrated. When he finished he sat until dawn broke, then called me. I said: At your service, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Rise, for by Allah you were not asleep. So I rose, performed ablution, and prayed behind him. He recited the Opening of the Book and: Say: He is Allah, One. Then he bowed and prostrated, then stood in the second and recited the Opening of the Book and: Say: O disbelievers. When he gave salutation I heard him say: O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light before me, light behind me, light on my right, light on my left, light above me, light beneath me, and magnify light for me, O Lord of the worlds.
