10556 - Abu Ubaydah Abd al-Warith ibn Ibrahim al-Askari narrated to us, Sayf ibn Miskin al-Uswari narrated, Mubarak ibn Fudalah narrated, from al-Hasan, from Utayy al-Sa'di: Utayy said: I went out seeking knowledge until I came to Kufa, and Abdullah ibn Mas'ud was among the people of Kufa. I asked about him and was guided to him, and he was in the Grand Mosque. I came to him and said: Abu Abd al-Rahman, I have come traveling to you to learn from you, that Allah may benefit us through it after you. He said to me: Of which people is the man? I said: A man of Basra. He said: Of whom? I said: Of this tribe, of Banu Sa'd. He said to me: O Sa'di, I shall narrate among you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when a man came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, shall I not guide you to a people abundant in wealth, strong in might, from whom you may gain abundant wealth, or he said: much. He said: Who are they? He said: They are this tribe, of Banu Sa'd of the sands. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Banu Sa'd with Allah are of great fortune. Ask, O Sa'di. I said: Abu Abd al-Rahman, has the Hour a knowledge by which the Hour is known? He was reclining and sat upright, and said: O Sa'di, you asked me of what I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about. I said: O Messenger of Allah, has the Hour a knowledge by which the Hour is known? He said to me: O Ibn Mas'ud, the Hour has signs, and the Hour has portents. Of the signs and portents of the Hour: children are anger, rain is heat, and evil ones overflow. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: the liar is believed, and the truthful is disbelieved. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: the treacherous is trusted, and the trustworthy is deemed treacherous. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: dishes are joined, and kinship is cut. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: hypocrites lead every tribe, and wicked men lead every market. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: mosques are adorned, and hearts are ruined. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: the believer in the tribe is humbler than a small sheep. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: men suffice with men and women with women. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: mosques are many and pulpits are high. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: the ruin of the world is built, and its building is ruined. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: musical instruments appear, and wines are drunk. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: drinking wines. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: policemen, slanderers, and fault-finders. O Ibn Mas'ud, of the signs and portents of the Hour: children of fornication are many. I said: Abu Abd al-Rahman, and are they Muslims? He said: Yes. I said: Abu Abd al-Rahman, and the Qur'an is among them? He said: Yes. I said: Abu Abd al-Rahman, and how is that? He said: There shall come upon people a time when a man divorces the woman, then denies his divorce and remains upon her private part; so they are two adulterers so long as they remain.
